I went to the internet cafe.  I went to a place called Pentagon, just off Kreshatik street downstairs from an Asian fast food place.  People were very nice, some spoke English.  Connections were high speed, just like when I am at work and they have a Bar!  Pleasant experience.

Yes, I used a card and connected from the apartment. (If you read my trip report, I even mention wh it was... I can't remember now...)

The connection was pretty low speed (don't forget that the phones are pulse dial!)

I got my internet card at a "cart" on independence square that also sold magazines, candies, and things like that. I am sure you can get the cards all over. Everywhere I have ever been had internet cards that were easy to get. (Except England... for some reason I was not able to find an internet card in England. None of the people I talked to there had ever heard of them! Go figure...)

Summary: It was convenient to connect from my apartment. But it was a pretty lousy connection.

If all you want to do is send a quick email or two, it's OK. If you want to browse, the internet cafes are the way to go...
