The wife and I are going to knock around Russia for a few weeks in September. However, it seems that some of the visa requrements have changed since last I was there three years ago. I hope someone can clear things up for me a little. I pawed around the board a little but didn't see anything on this specificly, hence the new thread.

Well, if the website of the Russian Consul is accurate (www.russianembassy.com), I require a "cover letter" from a US travel agency in addition to the Tourist Confirmation form I remember from last time. The confirmation is no problem since the wife's best freind is a travel agent in Ulyanovsk, but this cover letter thing is perplexing - especially the "Index and reference number of the recieving organization" item. Huh? I already have my tickets and no use for a travel agent per se, so if there is a way around this ridiculous obstacle I would sure like to know.

Thanks,
-Ken Williams

Some of you may remember me, dunno - I never posted a lot but got the best advice here, and hopefully helped someone else out along the way. Lena and I are doing fine and will be celebrating our 2nd anniversary in December. Lena landed a job at the Gap last november (an excellent "first" job IMO) and will be entering school as an undergraduate in Accounting this fall.

Don't forget the supplemental form 95 that you have to fill out too.

The supplemental form 95 is only required if you are only 40 or 45.  This is a reaction to a U.S.post 9/11 requirement that requires that such a form be filled out for entering the U.S. and the Russians responded tit for tat.
