For those considering a trip to Kherson, there is a new private hotel in town called the "Hotel Ninel" and its really nice and very inexpensive.  Staying there gets you one of the nicest rooms in Kherson with all the conveniences, including an indoor pool right in the middle of the "lobby restaurant" (kind of unusual, but kind of cool) and two private spa/sauna party rooms (I hosted a small "model party" at the restaurant/pool/spa while I was there) and there's an armed guard at the hotel front door and good daily maid and laundry service and...no one cares a gosh darn who comes in with you or not.  Its one block from the market and close to the main street in the center of town.  I had to change rooms while I was there because I stayed longer than I had planned and they had my room reserved for President Kuchma, who I guess is some important guy in Ukraine.

Why stay at a private flat in a "Stalin Style" building or at the dreaded Fregat when this place is available?

[I have no connection or relationship with the hotel or anyone associated with it.  I'm just passing on info of a new place because I know a few guys who have been to Kherson but no one seems to know about this place.]

Good information. But you left out something:

How much did you pay per night?

Did they charge you more when the moved yo u to the new room?

Rooms at the Ninel in Kherson last February were from $50-65 per night.  I had a larger room for a few nights at $65 and then--when they moved me across the hall to a just as nice but smaller room--the rate decreased to only $50 per night.  Not bad and its the same price as the Fregat.  And I THINK its also the same price as some agencies charge for flats in Kherson.  Lots of the girls I met in Kherson wanted to come to the hotel to check out the hotel and restaurant/pool.  There is also a wild show and some dancers on a platform above the pool on weekend nights.  The only drawback to the Ninel was they wanted USD in cash daily and they didn't accept credit cards, like the Fregat does.  But then, on the other hand, when I stayed at the Fregat on a prior visit to Kherson, they took SO much time processing my card that I was late back back to Odessa and almost missed my flight to Moscow.
