I have a question about Visas -- The Travel Kind.

TO get a tourist Visa, you usually have to show where you are staying, and an itinerary.

To get a Double-Entry Visa, do you have to book two trips in advance? Or can you just request one because you think you will be going again?

(I am specifically speaking of Ukraine, though I expect the answer is the same regardless...)

Does anyone know?

I don't know about Ukraine (I have a business visa) but  I USED to travel Aeroflot through SVO and thus needed a double entry visa. With a Russian visa you must specify both entry and exit dates for each trip when you file your application.

In the case of a double entry "transit" visa you must submit a copy of your plane tickets and they only give you one day for entry and exit as per your scheduled flight times. Not a safe bet with Aeroflot as I found out the hard way. If caught in an unscheduled layover, INSIST that the airline get your visa extended to the next day. They will tell you that your visa is good until the return flight. The ladies at passport control will tell you differently and you will be stuck there another day until your visa can be extended by the Consulate.

Mark,
I'd suggest you look carefully at a 'private' visa over a Tourist visa. Check out the Brama board as there is a lot of info there and here is a site that also has a lot of info for you:

You have to say where you are going, but no specific itenerary.  For the double-entry visa, you don't have to have a trip booked but briefly explain why you may wish to return again.  You can download the visa application for Ukraine from the Ukrainian Embassy website.  www.ukremb.com
