I would make sure they know how to bowl before I went over. Next time I am going to check on their dart throwing, golfing, and skiing skills before I get involved....

You would hate to get over there and find out all they know how to do is cook, clean, sew and make the whoopie...

Call Irina at 380 572 267739.  Best time to reach her is late evening or early morning Ukraine time.  Call tonight around 9:00 PST.  Her parents don't speak English so just ask for Irina until you get her (may have to call several times).  Also, here is her e-mail address:  irene@kharkov.ukrtel.net or igorobchenko@nospam.com also since you are on short notice here, send one to her cousin at mirror@kharkov.ua  She does work but since you will be arriving on Saturday, there should be no problem with her meeting you at Borispol and assist you from getting to Kharkov.  She is extremely reliable and if she says she will be there, she will be there waiting!  She will also arrange to get you an apartment in the center of Kharkov if you need one.  She can pull off pretty amazing accomodations at the last minute.  She got me a nice little one for $15/night in one days notice.  Tell her you are a frined of mine and she will do all she can to help you.  She also knows of several agencies in the city that will hook you up with lots of ladies.  Use Irina as your translator as she is cheaper.  If she can help you, tip her well for this last minute arrangements on her part as she will do everything she can for you.  Give her my regards.  Rostick knows her, so if you work with Jack, its probably who Rostick will use in Kharkov although I'm not sure who Jack officially uses there.

My 2 cents.  I don't know if other plans fell through at the last minute or you just really like living on the edge, not important now.  First, get some help now. Second, think about staying at least the first night in Kiev. That way you can get your tickets for the next day(round trip if able), see some of Kiev and be fresh for your second leg.  I never delt with Jack(had my arrangements made before hand), but wish I would have.  Third, don't tell any ladies you meet that you waited this long to make plans...lol

I have used Kulik Sergey Alexandrovich to place news paper adds in Ukraine and he did a great job.  I have also reccomended him to others and they all seem to be happy.  The woman from Kiev named Svitlana I have not used myself but I she has helped others from another board.  I have talked with her threw E-mail quite a few times and she seems to be on the ball..  She had the cheapest airport pickup price that I have seen at $20.

Good luck,
Ryan

You're off in five days and you don't know how you're getting to Kharkov yet?

Yikes!

I haven't been to Ukraine yet... do they need Visas still, or have they gotten rid of that? If they need them... do you have yours? DO you know where to get it registered when you arrive?

Maybe its just me... but for the first time there, I would HIGHLY suggest that you hook up with a professional... contact Jack, or someone like that to get someone to help you get to Kharkov.

It isn't too expensive to hire a driver/interpreter for a few hours, and it will be MUCH easier than trying to fumble through it yourself in a country where (I am assuming) you neither speak the language, nor know the alphabet.

I am a very experienced traveler myself, and yet I found my interpreter in Russia invaluable.

Now is not the time to try to save a few bucks... do that on your next trip...

CALL SOMEONE FOR HELP NOW!

My .02 cents worth

jazfunk,

Little surprised you do not already have all this arranged.

If you might need my help or assistance, write me. I can greet you at Borispol International airport and drive you to the center of Kiev.  From there we can go buy your plane or train ticket. You will probably have a few hours to kill if you are flying and you will have several hours to kill if you take the late evening train, in which case we can show you around Kiev.

We will call our associate in Kharkov and give them your car number or airline flight number and time of arrival and you will be greeted upon your arrival into Kharkov. We will repeat the process when you return to Kiev as you depart.

Interpreters, guides, drivers, honest agencies to introduce you to in both Kiev and Kharkov, just let me know.
