I will need to rent an apartment in Moscow for 1 month within the next several months... I would appreciate any help in finding an apartment near a metro. I have been there before so I am aware of prices of apartment so please suggest any decent apartments in the 200-450 dollar price/month only.
Many thanks

I will be surprised if you find what you want. We rent our apartment for $200 a week when it's cold and $300 a week when it's warm or $50 a day (we're in the center). We have no problem finding clients. We have 3 months out of this year that are not booked (open) but we couldn't rent it less then $800 a month, sense we're keeping it busy. Plus I like the idea of helping those people that are doing the visa thing. If you're interested write me and I'll let you know what's open, if you find that deal you're looking for write me about that too! I hate it when a nice guy writes saying his fiancee has her interview and wants our apartment again when it is already occupied and would like to have an alternative for them.
Best regards

If you can't rent a place while someone is away at their summer home, this whole thing makes no sense.  I know you said only one month, but the numbers just don't work out.  See below:

At $60/day, one could sign a lease for a $300/month apartment for six months.
$60 x 30 = $1800
$300 x 6 = $1800
I think if you are forced to pay $60/day you might as well get the long term lease instead.

Now, I'm sure you could find someone with the help of this board willing to rent you an apartment where you want for less that $1800 for one month,...but if that doesn't pan out, I say you take it for six months and have someone else (or two) on the board sign the lease with you so that they can stay in it some other time during the five months you won't be there.  No sense in getting ripped off.

I would like to describe you the situation with renting of appartments in Moscow.

There are only few companies which give in rent appartments on a daily/weekly basis. One month is considered as "weekly", not "long-terms". These companies have very limited amount of flats, all of them in the center of Moscow or close to it, they charge $60+ per day and have lots of clients. On the other hand there is a lot of agencies who offer appartments on a long-term basis. If you open the Moscow newspaper you'll see many offers of 1-room appartments for $200 per month. Some of my friends wanted to rent an appartment for this price but failed. The called but it was agencies who told them something like this: "Yes, we had this appartment but it has already gone. You can come to us, pay for our services (one month rent) and we'll try to find an appartment for you in some time". So I guess such price is just not real. Appartments near the metro stations are even more expensive. $300 for 1-room appartment is a more real price but if you rent it through the agency you need to pay $300 to the agency for services.

At the same time in summer very many people live in the country houses and would be happy to get money for their free appartments. The problem is that they will probably trust the American man but if they realize there will be girls there they will not give it in rent to you. There is a big difference between appartments "for rent" and appartments "where people live" (and have valuable things).

I can ask my friends about the appartment for you in summer but I think I'll need some more detailed info. You may understand that I just don't want to bear responsibility neither before my friends nor you if something goes wrong.

E-mail me if I can be of the assistance.

Regards,

Tootsie
