Well, as most of you know I am now married on March 22nd.
So yesterday was actually our first full day together as husband and wife.

So, we were looking for something to do last night and our Russian friends called and said they were going ice skating and wanted to know if we wanted to come along.  Anna was very excited and wanted to go.  We had been ice skating a few weeks ago and she really wanted to go again.

Everything was going really great and we had been skating for about an hour and we were all getting ready to quit and go over to another guys apartment and relax when Anna falls down and hurts her wrist.

she was in terrible pain and I was debating on what to do and trying to figure out how bad she was hurting and if we needed to go to a hospital or if it was just a sprain or what.

on our way home I could see that she was in a lot of pain so I decided that we should go to the emergency room and get it X-rayed.  It was a good thing because her wrist was fractured.

I just can't imagine how I would have felt if I had encouraged her to just stay at home and try to rest.  Taking her to the emergency room was the best idea.  So unfortunately she will be in a cast for another 6 weeks.  Terrible luck I suppose.

The nurse in the emergency room who was taking her vitals asked me if she was physically active and I told her yes that she runs in the gym alot and she said her blood pressure was way down even though she was in pain.

I can't help but feel responsible, and that I should have been somehow able to prevent this accident but it was just an accident and these things could happen anytime, anywhere.

At least she is in pretty good spirits.

Oatmeal,
Not much I can say to ease the pain and suffering your wife is experiencing. However, I can tell you that if she left the ER with a cast, ie no surgery, then the fracture isn't that bad. The bad fractures require pinning/plating in the OR and take much longer to heal. Also, there is a fairly high incidence of chronic pain associated with the implanted surgical devices. All in all, sounds like a simple fracture that will heal nicely. There's always a silver lining in every scenario. Best to you.

Hummph, not so good news Oatmeal. Have you told her family about this yet?

How might the accident affect some of your future plans?

Anna sent an e-mail about this to her family this morning.

As far as future plans go.  Everything is still on schedule.
Not really changing any plans up to this point.  Now I am just doing my best to comfort her.

I will be sure to keep you updated on this.

If so, I hope you take the KY Purchase Parkway down and stop by for a quick visit... I've got Navy Drill on the 6th, but hopefully you'll be passing through my area on the 5th (friday).

I just gotta see that white cast.  Accidents happen, good judgement call on going to the hospital.  If you hadn't, that would be concern for the family.  But you did the right thing.  Taking care of Number 1 (The Mrs).
