I thought some might enjoy this.

When Nasa first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ball-point pens would not work in zero gravity.  To combat the problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 Billion to develope a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to 300C.

The Russians used a pencil.

True but we are capitalists so we marked the pen saying "NASA developed it" and someone made lots of money on it.  Invention out of need works in many ways or did we really need it?  Don't break your lead the pencil shavings might get caught in something...  Thank god for computers...
