I'm looking for a connection or some advice concerning a woman I met from Omsk. Does anyone have a connection in Omsk. I would like to find out if this woman is on the up and up.  I have been corresponding with her for a few months. She hasn't ask about coming to the U.S. However, I have invited her to come visit. It is now time to pay 290.00 for a visa. How should I go about not getting ripped off. I also intend on paying for airfare in the future. She appears to be a very honest and sincere person. But, don't they all. I'm considering suggesting we meet in a neutral setting. My friend, who has been to Russia, suggest Kiev or Sevastbol. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

... in response to You can pay for the Visa fee in the USA, posted by jj on Feb 9, 2002

With jj's writings he makes it appear as though it's not as difficult as I, and others, think it is to get a lady here on a tourist visa. I would not like to think that someone would continue to give bad information, this is the problem that Max had. Bad information is not good!

I suggest you contact jj and ask him how he would recommend you to do this. I am sure jj will be able to talk you thru the procedure. And after he has helped you please write back and let us know how things went.

And if you go to Kiev, ask jj how to get ahold of the flat owner who has a flat "close" to the center for $25 a night. He won't tell us how, only that he can do it, maybe he'll tell you if he helps you to get this woman to America on a tourist visa.

Where ever you decide to meet this lady, do not put all of your eggs in one basket.  There have been many many reports here of first meetings lasting all of 10 minutes when the two parties realize there is zero or even negative chemistry.

And be sure to read archives for stories about what it take for a lady from FSU to get a visa to visit here.  Sure it can be done, but the requirements are such (in terms of their income, their property, their other assets in FSU, family in FSU) that a very small percentage of the ladies are going to qualify.

If I do remember it well,  this is  what I asked fo, $290 for a visa from a girl in  Omsk, late last year.
The she needed money for this and that and wanted to meet somewhere on an island in the sun, but I could not
send her the ticket, she had to buy it at her travel agent.
Jack got me out of that one.
Perhaps you should e-mail me, Duke.
Did you get a photo of her, where she is only wearing a white shirt, another in a bikini, where she is holding the roof of a cavern.

First question - $290 for a visa? Is it multiple-entry one year visa? Otherwise, it seems too much for me to pay for a visa to USA. How is she sure she will even get it?

Second of all, why would woman from Russian go to Ukraine to meet with you? Seems way too far for me. Jack is right. Go to Omsk, meet with her and other women and proceed from there. Or go to Moscow and have her come over to meet with you.

Hey Duke, are you saying for $290.00 you can pay for a visa to get her over here?

If so, you need to slow down, take a step back and re-think things. I think there is probably at best a 10% chance of you getting that lady here. Depending on her age, children, personal wealth, job, owning her own flat, and things like this, your chance may move up to 15%.

If you decide to visit her, go to Omsk. Meet some other ladies in Omsk also. Many ladies there, you owe it to yourself to meet other ladies from this city and region. Just get to Omsk some four or five days before she thinks you arrive. You don't want her to greet you at the airport because you want to shower, shave, change close before you see her as you have been traveling for probably 30 hours. She'll understand why you don't want her to meet you at the airport.

Duke, if you think you have her home address, I can help you with delivering a letter to her in Omsk and you can find out if the address is real, if she lives there, if she looks like the lady you think you are writing and if she is a he!

Actually,  it is the cutest trick of them all to play on the novice.  Little Dimitri,  has a pile of great looking photos ( models ) he has cut from magazines or loaded from Cd's.  You think you are writing to this girl...even telephoning this girl...even plunking down some dough at Western Union for "this girl".  All the while,  it is clever Dmitri professing his love for your money...errr you. Now,  this little game works quite well,  'cuz within 2 emails you are either sending some dough or they drop you and they are now playing with the other victims.  Clue=  if the photos look tttoooo good,  like a model in a mag...it probably is.  Of course the model knows nothing about any of this.  Varitation,  a photographer will pay a girl on the street $2-$5 bucks for taking some photos of her...whatever the rap,  like please let me take some photos,  "I work for a modeling agency and I think you could do very well."  The girls agree,  both for the flattery and a couple bucks.  Those photos are then on the internet,  usually at the "free" sites and of course you and Dmitri are now close pen pals.  Just don't bend over.  Of course there are even more variations.  Oh! $290 from Omsk for a visa.  This must be a very special visa?  I know 1 college girl who is coming here from Novosibersik on an exchange program and I know for sure she is not paying $290 for a visa.

Terry, Terry, Terry, I guess I should tell you that it does happen. In my opinion, based on the times we have seen it, about 7 or 8% of the time. Also Terry, not all these ladies are really single, many of them are married or have Russian boyfriends.

And Terry, you know that really beautiful, slim trim lady you think you are writing?  In reality, she might really be 51 in age, 5ft. 2 inchs, and you DON'T want to see her in a bathing suit!
