... in response to Re: Re: Deckard's trip report - POST #9, posted by Deckard on Jan 23, 2002My has Ukrainian citizenship, but the population of Crimea is 70% Russian and, as you most likely already know, many of the Russians in Crimea would prefer to be part of Russia rather than Ukraine. The Crimea became part of Ukraine as a result of a "gift" from Kruschev in the 1950's which was of little significance until the end of the Soviet Union. Anyway, she has really enjoyed living in America. It is fortunate that we live in the Washington, D.C. area as there are many Russians and she was able to make a lot of friends both here and and in other cities. In addition, we agreed at the outset that she could go at her own pace on "adaptation" which allowed her to gradually immerse herself without any pressure. It's been wonderful.
