Last night the RW wife sets the alarm-clock and gets at mid-night to fill two containers with water to save for emergencies through-out the up-coming year...(They will miracilously change over-night)
Apparently,it is some kind of church holiday to Russians today and they (the believers) will get up early today to do this and rise early and wash themselves.Gotta love em...
Anyone ever hear of this holiday Huh

I been "running" with this "water" thing here at home...
I was brought up Roman Catholic and went to a parochial school with nuns and all but I wasn't aware of this Russian Orthodox church holiday.
I been making jokes with the wife on how to use this special water we have now.She remains dead-up serious about it and says we can wash our faces with it if sick etc...
Guess I got lucky and have a wife that was brought up in the "old school".Her Poppa is Armenian and Mum is Ukraniun and Polish.Nice people but no myth about the vodka with the men in the family.Every day is occassion for a drink!
Thanks for the input all and best of luck to all...

We had our Theophany on the 6th. The beautiful thing about it, the waters get blessed twice because of the different calendars. It is also called "The Great Blessing of the Waters". It is where the priests all over the world bless all of the bodies of water; lakes, rivers, streams, and oceans. Have a good drink of water, for today it is holy.

It is "Kreshchenie" - the day of Baptism of Jesus Christ, the day of Water Blessing.

My wife said this holiday is called " krescheniye ". It is a good holiday, and has a kind feel to it. She said it is a sign that your wife is strong in her religious beliefs. When the water is collected on this day the water is thought to have spiritual powers, like holy water. After my wife read your post she is now mad at herself for forgetting.
