An increasing number of Russian people are coming to Norway applying for asylum. Last year there came more than 3000 from the former Soviet Union. Especially in St.Petersburg and Moscow smugglers are recruiting people and are giving them hope about well paid jobs in Norway. Only a very small percent are given asylum and then of humantarian reasons. Most of them are sent home poorer than they were before since they have lost the money they have paid for coming here.
The latest report from the World Bank reports that the GDP is going down in most of the earlier SU countries. That means that the cake they have to divide for each citizen is getting smaller and smaller. Authorities here are expecting an increasing pressure from poor people wanting to come here. Hardly any places in the world there are so big differences in the standard of living between to countries with common border as between Norway and Russia.
However, the fact is that Norway needs a lot of more workers, especially care workers and in some professions.
