Hello Everyone,

I will be visiting my fiance again in January. We have decided to start the process of optaining a fiance Visa.  I want to start the forms during my visit. Exactly what forms do I need? Do I need to have the INS mail me the forms or will it be possible to download them from the internet and use those forms? What forms will I need ready in advance before my visit to Ukraine?

I appreciate everyone's help and advice!
Thanks,
John

E-mail me at amtnmn4u@nospam.com and I will forward you a file that the Consulate in Warsaw sent me describing the fiancee visa process.

You can download the forms that you need from the INS site. To get your petition started you will need to send in an I-129F (petition), a G-325A (bio) for yourself and one for your fiancee, and an I-134 (affidavit of support) as a minimum. While you are in Ukraine, get your fiancee to fill out and SIGN all four copies of her G-325A.

Since you are there it would be to your advantage to go ahead and get her birth cert and any divorce decrees translated as it is cheaper over there. (Anything extra that you send with your petition will only help speed the process.) You may also wish to get her adit style photos done at this time. Download the specs from the INS and take with you.

She will also need a police report (and translation) but this can wait until her interview.

I agree with the list for the petition infomation (a good checklist for everything can be found at

http://alixtcat.50megs.com

However, I would encourage you to find out about the police report situation ahead of time.  If she has lived in the same place since she was 16, then you don't need to get started now.  If you are filing at 3 of the service centers, you will have plenty of time for her to get that in hand.

On the other hand, if she lived in Russia for a while, or in several different towns in the Ukraine, and you are filing at Vermont (the fastest service center), then you will not want to wait.  The interview can take place a few weeks after the petition is approved, and getting the police reports may take longer than that.

The other thing for her to get started on is to get an international passport, if she doesn't already have one.

Good luck,

Steve M.
