Going to Odessa in February and need a decent flat..  If anyone has a good line on one, I would appreciate any info..
Stayed in Kiev in an excellent flat for $20 per night but am told the cheapest in Odessa (which should be cheaper than Kiev) is $40-50 per night!

Thanks for any info,
Oscar

I stayed in a flat in Odessa for about 2 weeks.  I thought the flat in Odessa was not quite as nice as my flat in Kiev but I did not require much.  I just needed a place to put my head.

The flat I used was arranged by Jack from First Dream.
I would suggest that you talk to Jack and I am quite sure he can fix you up.  If you don't like the flat they have arranged then they can show you other flats.

I am not sure what you expect in terms of luxury but the price range was close to what I paid.  I paid $50 per night but again that was in the summer and I am not sure if the rate would be any cheaper in the winter.

If you like you can e-mail me at JLBeckett55@hotmail.com if you have any questions regarding my stay in Odessa or contact Jack.

Good Luck.  Jim

I cannot help you either Oscar, except perhaps to add perspective. My experience with Odesa (and Kyiv) suggests that:

* Yes, under normal circumstances one should be able to find a flat to rent that is cheaper than Kyiv.
* I do not know where you stayed in Kyiv or how you found an "excellent flat for $20 per night" - but I might suggest you were either very lucky, or your standards are far different than mine - and many people with whom I travel and am acquainted. I have never paid less than $40 per night in Kyiv (more than a dozen trips in the past 5 years - and more than a year's worth of collective nights spent in Ukraine), but then I always insist on a flat with certain amenities (such as independent hot water boiler and washer/dryer, etc) AND I always insist on a flat within a block or two of Kreschatyk.
* While you seem to be upset with the $40 per night in Odesa - your other option is a hotel - and I know from personal experience that you will pay substantially more than $100 per night in Odesa. Krasnaya is one of the more affordable hotels in Odesa - and it is substantially more than $100 per night. Londonskaya is out of sight insofar as pricing. I believe Chornye More may be a little less - but still more than $100 per night.
* Finally, you also seem to be growing a bit out-of-shape over not receiving a helpful reply. You might want to consider that you have outlined a pretty narrow range of options in your request for people to respond back to you. Seems a bit silly for you to say you are growing tired of helping others and yet not receiving a reply to your request. Maybe people simply do not have a decent reply to your narrowly-defined question.

Dan,

How's your son's tennis game coming along?  Is he improving?  Just wondering.  I thought to play tennis today when I remembered our discussions on this topic some time ago.  Anyway, I hope everything is going well in your neck of the woods.

Cheers...

Nationally - which isn't too bad considering he is only 10 years old. About a month ago he was selected to Team Colorado - the 8 best 12-and-under player's in the state - and Greg Patton was working with him this past weekend. Greg has coached most of the greats like Courier, Chang and Sampras - and he was full of praise for Christopher's game.

We'll see - it's certainly a marathon and not a sprint - and we're only just beginning - so we'll just have to see where things go in the future.

Thanks for thinking of us DR. I'll keep you posted about the progress.

I've passed on the "Kiev" connection about 10 times from the last time I asked for any help on Odessa a couple of weeks ago!  I am getting tired of helping everyone else, yet nobody has given me one bit of help on Odessa!  If you want to go back about 2 weeks, you will find the info..
