My daughter is 8 years old. She has already decided that she wants to train Killer Whales for Sea World when she grows up.

So... every wednesday, I take her to swim lessons. Even though she already swims really well for her age.

Why you may ask?

Because when we were last at Sea World, she talked to a trainer, and found out that the first thing that most applicants fail in the Shamu Trainer test is the swimming part. They have to swim to the bottom of Shamu's tank (56 degree water, folks) grab a ring, swim to the surface, jump out, and go to a microphone and read a paragraph in normal breath.

So my daughter is in swim lessons.

BECAUSE SHE DREAMS OF ONE DAY BEING A SHAMU TRAINER, SHE IS LEARNING WHAT SHE CAN NOW.

OK... so.. now ask me what I think of a woman who puts an ad in a catalog, says she wants to marry an american man, and then admits to speaking no English -- and has NO plans to learn it.

Does she want to marry an American? Maybe... if the right one drops in her lap, I guess. Who will whisk her off to English classes. And spoon feed her...then she will marry...

But to my thinking, she doesn't have the maturity of my eight year old daughter.

But English Lessons are expensive? Poppycock. Ask some of the Russian Women who have come over here what they think of that. Maria told me she started learning English from a book. I dated a woman who moved here from Argentina when she was in 2nd grade. Her father taught her English using a dictionary. You should hear her vocabulary!

If you have a dream, and are not willing to put forth the effort to make it happen, then it is merely a fantasy.

I, personally, would never marry someone who did not have the foresight of an eight year old.

Of course, opinions vary.

But this is mine...

... in response to Lessons:  #3 -- The English Thing, posted by MarkInTx on Nov 24, 2001

Does it go both ways...  should not the other partner here also seek to learn more about Russian/Ukraine culture and language...  surely one or two weeks meeting is not much to go by...  hell I spent three months and stilll could not pick the opportunist...  open my heart and trust...  but I still love Russsian/Ukrainian Women.  They have so much more appeal and the accent just drives me wild with desire..
