If there is any TV show that represents Russian soul and sentimentality, it is " В нашу гавань заходили корабли " (V'nashu gavan zahodili korabli). Roughly translated it means "Our ships came into the harbor". It seems to have settled on 7pm EST 6pm CST time slot on Sunday evenings. I'm watching it now. There is nothing like it on US television.
If you want any insight into Russian peoples and culture, watch the show. You don't have to understand the language, just watch the expressions of the people on the show. It's a family show so kids can watch.
