We came to the conclusion it was just too risky to attempt. Plus, the ambiguous message they've posted about applicants who do require interviews being seen in an "unspecified location at the embassy" wasn't very reassuring either. Not to mention the fact that she doesn't even know if FedEx delivers to Kazan? Arghhh...

So she has returned to Kazan empty-handed, as far as the visa goes, and we will contact the embassy about rescheduling the interview for a later date. That means another train ride to Moscow and another period of 'pre-interview anxieties" (and another hotel bill.) As much as these interviews have been purported to be a relative piece-of-cake, the interviewee certainly feels the strain in waiting. As does the sponsor!
And yet, remaining optimistically patient and supportive,

Ralph first of all calm down. This situation is very difficult but "the devil is not as black as he is painted." I would think that when the embassy is talking about non-immigrant visas they are talking about tourist visas. In fact if you look at the embassy's web site they include the fiancee visa under immigrant visas. I have not heard any change in the fiancee interview process and I would imagine that your fiancee will be able to go to an interview next week and pick up her visa after that as has been done in the past. I would suggest you call the embassy and talk to them. I have found them to be very helpful. Find out when her new interview will be scheduled and ask them to also email you so that you have it in writing. If they have changed the whole process around and now require you to fedex in the documents they will probably put down the new procedures on their web site. They still have the same old procedures procedure there now.
Take care

... in response to PART III... sequel from Texas, posted by tfcrew on Oct 20, 2001

Sorry guys... I have some way bad news for you. They are scheduling the missed interview dated people for December 17th forwards.

I have had a lawyer even trying to change that for us, but he said it doesn't look good, so they screw us anyway you look at it here. I missed work yesterday from it I was so down even, and I don't know know what I feel more... anger or despair.

I would have posted sooner, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. The wasted time, the wasted money, the wasted hopes... all because they can't get their act together at the Embassy. Threats they said is why they closed..? Why is it we heard about the threats to so many other embassies, but nothing from the Moscow one at all. Some people there are saying it was just because they needed time to move everything into one building.

Do they care about the people's lives they are screwing up from this long a delay? Of course not. To make matters worse, there was a message outside the embassy saying they were going to reschedule the missed appointment interviews for starting October 30th. Afraid not. My poor Julia saw this and wanted to stay even longer in moscow thinking we can still do the interview next week or so.

We had planned a wedding for December 15th, now the new scheduled date is the 19th of December for the interview.... Hmm, kinda hard to have the wedding without the bride. The heartless bastards!

P.S. Sorry guys, I know I should keep it in check but this is me ranting a bit. This is the despair I feel thanks to the decision of the heartless General James Warlick there (as named by Osana from the Moscow Embassy visa status information line that he is the decision maker on this is what she told me.. it is the one they also charge you $1.60 a minute to speak to someone) anyways this General .. oh excuse me, he does not deserve to have the title capitalized me thinks... general james warlick the heartless evidently could care less about the losses involved, we are the sacrificial lambs it would seem.

Sad((

We are all freaking out about the situation at the Moscow embassy. You are right, this really screws up our lives big time. But the fact is: we are at war. This is not something that is going to change any time soon. I am sure the Moscow embassy had very good reason to close the way they did. My fiancee's interview is in November, and I hope it goes as scheduled. But the reality is, this war is going to continue to screw up everyone's lives both here and abroad, not just those of us in the process of binging our fiancees to America. I have a feeling that things are going to continue to get worse.

As for our fiancees, here's what I think would be a better solution. They should do away with the interview process altogether, as they have already done at other embassies. Review our I-129Fs and our fiancees' medical exams and other papers, then issue the visas. It would save everybody a lot of time, expense, and aggravation. The interview seems to have been reduced to 3 or 4 silly questions anyway. What's the point?

That's my 2 cents worth. In the meantime, let's all keep hoping and praying that conditions in the world will still permit us to have our fiancees join us without further delay.
