I will keep this short and bitter for the
moment...Yesterday (Thursday), Elena and I, and many
others went to the Immigration section in Moscow to
have our interview for the K-1. No problem, in at 8:00
out by 9;30, approved, and told to come back at 5:00
to pick up the Visa. Plane reservations for both of us
to leave on Saturday. Returned at 5:00 to find out
that the Immigration building was closed "for general
securtiy purposes and would not be open until further
notice." I found out today that terrorist threats were
made and no other information has been made available.
A US Army Captain who was working in the main building
has been helping me out with info, but he has nothing
else he can tell me...except that the people who would
normally be in the Immigration Building were in the
main building sitting around drinking coffee. Moscow
Information Center in the Embassy is not answering
telephone calls and that is that. Speculation at this
point is useless, so I will sign off now...but if any

I have been keeping pretty curent on the news and I do know that yesterday the president,on a nationally televised announcement told all US citizens that he was informed by the FBI that they had "some" inside information that some sort of random or retaliative (to our ongoing daily bombing campaingn in Afganistan) terrorist were going to occur in the USA with-in the next several days and for every citizen to be on the highest form of alert and to inform authorities of "any" peculiar activities.
Oddly,no one could give specifics on what was even "suspected" to occur or what to look out for.That in essance was the topic of the late evening world news with Peter Jennings who was a little dumbfounded that such an announcement would be made but with no such specifics...Seems like something is going on and they don't want the people in US in a frenzy or something has already occurred and this is a way of breaking the news slowly.We have had a couple of Amtrax cases of germ warfare break out in Florida and I know that through-out the country and even locally,all utility and water supplies are being policed with ultimate security.
I just purchased some calling cards last night so if you need me to give you a call and keep you posted let me know.
