Hi List,
When you bring a RW over on K-1, how do you get her belongings (as meager as they are) over to US?  You can carry some in luggage on the plane flight but that is somewhat limited.  I am presumming that sending via UPS/mail/etc is ridiculously expensive to the point that you can buy new stuff here cheaper.  But certain items -- maybe books or something -- may be heavy and may be very cherished so you can't leave behind.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks

Dave

UPS and or Airmail is rediculously expensive, but if you're not in a hurry, surface (sea) mail is not that expensive. Plan on at least a month to six weeks, though.

Also plan on it looking like someone parked a forklift on it.

Pack it well, and use reinforced tape.

Dave,
Best bet is to check with the airlines and see what their rates are for additional baggage.  Don't forget that you and your future wife will be back to visit and can bring additional things when you return.  You may be suprised at how little she will actually bring.  Also keep in mind that things may not work out as planned, so don't "dump" her things left behind until after the wedding.  Of course we all hope for the best.

As far as how much stuff she has, not everyone is in the same boat on this one...

Some advance shipping with my son and I last year, her son and her last September, then the four of us this summer, and we still have a couple more persons worth of stuff to bring over.

I had a friend of my wife mail us her belonings in a package through the postal service. It cost about $60 for a large package.
