It tells me our system worked EXACTLY as it was designed to.

Where were you during high school government class? Behind the bleachers smoking dope?   ;D

That's OK, you'll get over it. A lot of us survived 8 years of that bozo Obama, and I'm sure you'll survive a Trump administration or two...

Relax man, you'll live longer...

Ray

Well maybe Trump missed or forgot that civics class because in 2012 he tweeted this after Romney lost: "The Electoral College is a disaster for democracy."

Yeah, this issue seems to come up every four years or so.

But when you understand why the founding fathers set up the electoral college system the way it is, I think it was a brilliant idea.

Without it, a handful of the largest cities would effectively control our elections.

Candidates don't campaign on winning the popular vote, so paying too much attention to it is useless. That's why Hillary and the Dems aren't complaining about it now, just the ignorant bozos in the street.  :D

Not going to get into a debate on the pros and cons of the Electoral College here (Again, apologies to Maria for further derailing her thread).

But this does not come up every four years, at least not in a relevant way. The situation where the winner of the Electoral College also lost the popular vote has only happened 5 times (3 in the 1800's, Gore/Bush in 2000 and now Trump/Clinton 2016).

In the case of this year's election, it is understandable the "bozos" on the street would at least discuss it given Trump's past comments on the issue. That is a very unique and unprecedented situation.

Though the rules of the game are what they are and Trump did win. You don't change the rules after the fact.

I think it was CNN interviewing some of the "bozos on the street" the other day.

These are mostly young idiots who couldn't explain why or for what they were demonstrating. In fact, it seems that the majority of them didn't even vote.

In contrast, my wife is a naturalized immigrant who ALWAYS votes. She voted for Trump...

My position is... If you don't vote, you shouldn't complain about the results, like that bozo Colin Kaepernick who didn't bother to vote...DUH!

For the record my wife says you are an Idiot"quote "

She does not need to work at all and could say home if she wanted to. I do very well.

She hates people that break laws and takes money out of her/ my pocket.

My wife views herself as an American, not a Latina .

She's probably only mad at the illegal immigrants because she thinks they had an easy time coming over here and they're succeeding whereas she had to make the ultimate sacrifice and marry some goofyass opie taylor looking mofo and sleep with him every night and listen to him whine about his "tax dollars bla bla bla".  So if she doesn't even have to work then why does she go to work every day and put up with people she supposedly can't stand?  Hmm, hmm, hmm, makes you think doesn't it...  ;)

I read a couple of the post in this thread and kind of chuckled. It almost sounds like a couple of you guys are trying to justify your political views by saying, "Look....even my foreign wife agrees with me! And she's not even from here!" I don't think it's realistic to suggest that any man's foreign wife would develop political views contrary to their own. Of course she's going to wholeheartedly agree with you. Where else would she have learned what to think about the U.S. Government? And I'm not saying there aren't educated women in Latin America or Asia that are well versed in the "goings-on" of American Politics. I'm just saying if you met such a woman while you were dating, and her political views were that different from yours, you wouldn't have married her in the first place.

You're the one who said "the people have spoken" and the MAJORITY OF AMERICANS VOTED AGAINST TRUMP!!

He lost the popular vote.

But it's cool.  We'll see how this next 4-8 years go.  If nothing else, I'm sure it'll be interesting.

If every Republican would have read this.... Cruz would have won the nomination hands down.

And Hillary would be the President elect right now.

Only Trump could blind the right with his nationalistic rhetoric and anti immigrant stance while courting the Democrats that already knew he was a liberal at heart.

Interesting how the old white men of PL always insist that there is no racism in America.

My daughter-in-law is a Korean woman who is now a US citizen. She is a decorated US Army veteran who served for four years. Any guess as to what she is called by her racist countrymen? A particular epithet referring to Asians? I have no doubt most of the people who use that word are Trump voters and I have no doubt that our new President would use the same word himself.

That is the America that we live in.

Or at least she's going to SAY she agrees with you.  I'm convinced kb's wife just nods her head and tells him what she thinks he wants to hear.  She probably rolls her eyes at his dumb@ass as soon as he looks away.

Like he claims his wife "doesn't consider herself latina, she only considers herself to be American".  What does that even mean?  There's no way she came up with that on her own.  It's obviously something HE came up with and she just nods in agreement, kinda like "yea whatever you say dude  ::) ".

Then he claims she hates all those "illegal" latino immigrants who she serves at her Spanish-speaking, latino-themed bank, yet she continues to work there EVEN THOUGH SHE DOESN'T EVEN NEED THE MONEY.  If she hates her customers and she doesn't need the money, THEN WHY THE F*CK DOES SHE CONTINUE WORKING THERE!!??  She probably continues working there to escape from kb's lame annoying @ss and be around her Hispanic culture.  I'm sure she comes into contact with plenty of handsome, sharply dressed latino men as well, which I bet she doesn't mind at all.

I hope for kb's sake he has his @ass covered as far as asset protection since he's making all that "big bank" and all...

She works there because they pay 100% of our health insurance Cadillac plan

My wife was an upper class Corporate CFO in Ecuador working for Multi National companies.
Her parents own  several companies and property.

They are by nature conservative and want to keep whats theirs a  not give to people who they see did not earn it.
My wife has not been back to Ecuador in almost 4 years and has no plans to return unless there is a death.
I could care less if you believe me or not, but those are the facts .

I really never cared much for latin culture so my wife thinking more American than Latina suites me just fine.
She Loves What's Under The Kilt !

Viva Ecuador !

As I've stated I think Trump is a demagogue, a charlatan and a scam artist. But that second quote/meme has been exposed as a fake. The photo is of a much younger Trump (circa 1988, not 1998). Don't know about the others.

Doesn't change the fact that the guy is a serial liar and a reckless choice for President.

I see that CNN has migrated from full-time Hillary media campaign manager to a bunch of race-baiting lying hypocrite whining Democrats.

I guess anyone tuning in to CNN during the next four years is going to hear nothing but "RACIST!" "RACIST!" "RACIST!"...

I think the important point is not so much who these foreign wives voted for, but the fact that they voted, while so many whiny "Americans" didn't even bother.

Of course it is not unionized. In fact they fire anyone when they find out that they are a union organizer. She fired a guy from Michigan who was from the UAW even though he was a really good worker.

That is the reason Toyota closed their Fremont, California plant - the idiot union would defend people who were chronically late, didn't come in etc. Most California Toyota union members were pissed that the union would defend these people because they knew it would lead to loss of the plant.

Now I find that interesting that they fire anyone planted by the union.

The UAW has been a major factor in the decision by the major US auto manufacturers to move to Mexico or wherever, IMO. I remember when they demanding a guarantee of 2000 hours of full pay per year, whether there was any work to do or not.

My first wife worked for a Japanese tech manufacturer here. There were numerous attempts by the Machinist's Union to organize, but they never got more than a few votes.

The Japanese answer to the unions was to pay very good wages, along with excellent benefits, to their workers so they would have no reason to vote in the union.

Are labor unions a big deal down in Colombia?

My wife voted in the USA presidential election and holding dual passports, voted in her home country's presidential election as well. The impoverished Philippines even sent her a ballot with postage prepaid back. She figured that although she's not much into complaining or talking politics in general, that if she didn't vote, it wouldn't be appropriate to comment one way or another, even if she felt inclined.

She wasn't much impressed with the USA's selection, feeling that it came down to 'the lesser of two evils'. She also likes how presidents in her country can only serve one term.

She agrees that (most) - "Politicians are like diapers---they're often full of sh!t and should be changed frequently"
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!
