Tell me about it.  I hate these stupid peace signs too!  Too childish!

Like you, I also avoid "20-80" age range.  Obviously non-serious searchers!  Also avoid these who wrote "I hate games"  "I hate lairs"

Even worse when comes to Dominician Republic girls.  Most of them always wrote like "20-80" age!

Still waiting for a profile along the lines of--Looking for: " Male, no kids, still breathing, has pension..."

I know women with older husbands, still collecting from his pensions, social security etc--keeping them basically on life support in nursing homes while they live off his money.

I think if the husbands were to die, they'd take him to the taxidermist, have him stuffed and looking life like, have a voice recorder inside him to send out holiday wishes and make other statements from time to time, already having mastered how to recreate his signature when needed.
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

Yes.  This is great advice.  Actually have already had Skype meetings with 4 ladies from CC.  Luckily all of them knew some English, though not fluently.  I did my best to speak Spanish, but it was nice having that crutch when I needed it.  I'm planning on meeting them in person once in country (as well as more Skype meetings in the mean time). They all seem real sweet and sincere. If these ladies are indicative of what Colombia has to offer, then I think I'm going to be VERY happy down there.

Yeah Chew...based on what you have said thus far, you will likely be very happy with your choices of ladies.  Try to see a few ladies before falling to hard for the 1st one you see in person.

Overall I think some men have so much fun in dating all the ladies that they change their mind about marrying just one.

I'll go one step further.  With the internet you can watch and listen to Colombian Spanish 24/7.  This will help a lot more than listening to the Spanglish on local Radio and TV.  Training your ear to understand the Colombian accent would be a big step in the right direction.

I listen to a lot of Spanish language radio in San Antonio and watch a lot of soccer on Spanish language television. I am curious why you call it Spanglish. Are you a viewer and listener of Spanish language radio and television?

Well I cant really avoid the 20 to 60 since I am almost there anyway..

I spent a weekend with a 20 year old and she asked "how old are you?"..I said "I already told you, " She said yeah,.. I know, I forget".. " You said you graduated from University in 1979..that is way before I was born".. "Wky , is it important?" I asked "Si" she said, I asked her to guess "are you over 50?" "yes" 52? no 55, no mas? si..58.. OK,,

I asked .,."do you think there is too much difference in our age to have a relation? " I asked "No, she said, do you?"

I said, " well , I had a relation with a 22 year old and it didnt last"..but then I thought, same thing with women in their 30s and 40s..and I said " I like to keep an open mind, age doesnt matter" she smiled..

So I guess I see how it goes..just go with the flow..no use having too many preconcieved  limitations..

But If I was the OPs age, and had a lot more options, and less time, I would avoid the ones that want guys up to 60, and definitely up to 80.

Yeah the ones that say " I hate head games and liars" are usually the biggest culprits themselves..LOL

Yeah, most Dominicanas on the cupid sites want to date a guy "20-60" (or even older), even the teenagers  :o  Which is one of the reasons why I don't really trust them, even though I find many of them very attractive.

You think and worry to damn much.....just enjoy life....why ask why?

BTW....I always took it as a sign of interest if a chick wanted to know my age.....women that are just looking for a good time don't care to ask usually.....nothing wrong with that either.

Just in case you haven't noticed.....it's the fourth quarter and you're behind....better start playing fast and loose. LOL!!

Huh?  ???  Are you talking about me?  I am not a backpacker (never have been) and I can assure you that I shower every day (well usually) ;D  Even when I was living in Latin America on what you consider to be a "backpacker budget" I had a fully functional shower in my apartment  ;)

Sure the old guys are probably very...generou$ with these girls which is why they "love" them so much.  ;D  Jijiji...

What I meant to ask in my earlier post that got mangled somehow is I am curious why you refer to it as Spanglish.

Hey--I am certainly not an Adam Sandler fan--he's very one dimensional in terms of his roles and acting range overall, but the movie "Spanglish" that he was in was actually pretty good light entertainment!

Haha, Spanglish wasn't a bad flick.  To answer cowboys question, the Spanish spoken in the states I noticed can be very dicey.  Lots of slang words and English thrown in.  It is Spanglish, Spanish + English.

I don't think you have watched or listened to Spanish language radio and television. A lot of the people who appear on Telemundo, Univision, Azteca, Galavision etc are from South America and they do not speak Spanglish.

Yes I've seen my share,  Don Francisco a lot in fact, and their Spanish is fine.  But I've noticed on radio especially they are more localized.  And you will definitely get slammed with lots of interesting variations on Spanish.  Piolin for example, who was on SiriusXM.  Fun to listen to but definitely mixed some "jerga" in there.    I'm not knocking it at all. It's just part of the Spanish American culture.

But I think you are missing my point.  Point was why not use all the tools available.  With the internet you can listen or watch exactly what you are looking for.  If you are going to visit Colombia, listening to Piolin isn't going to help you much.  The accent is way different.  And the words at times in another universe almost.

If you really want to see good television, Spain is where it is at.  rtve.es

Well, every country is going to have its own unique "jergas". Personally I love learning those. I find it fun and interesting and some of them can be really funny. But obviously someone who is just starting to learn Spanish shouldn't be learning jergas at first, especially those from a country that isn't the one he wants to visit.

Here is a video with some funny Peruvian jergas (warning: lower class Peruvian accent, hard to understand!)  ;D

Depends where you live I guess. If you live in South Texas you better learn to understand the locals because that's the Spanish you're going to be listening to day in and day out.

Got that right. I gave up on them.

Reminds me of a lady I was involved with before I met my wife. She had been taking English classes for 2 or 3 years and thought she was doing all right. Then one time I called her and she was upset and I asked her why. She said that the teacher had met a genuine native English speaker (keep in mind that she lived in a town that was not on the gringo trail, so native English speakers were like hens' teeth). So the teacher brought the guy to class and "None of us could understand a word he said."  I asked her where the guy was from and she said "Ireland".......after I was finally able to quit laughing long enough to speak, I told her "We can barely understand them either."........God only knows what would have happened if the teacher had brought in a Scot.

LOl funny story.  ;D

As for the Peruvian guys, yeah they are challenging, even for someone like myself who is used to Peruvian Spanish and slang. Most Peruvian Spanish isn't as hard to understand though. In fact, personally, I think it is usually pretty easy to understand. It is mostly the very young, lower class guys from the coastal cities who talk like they do in the video.

Hey don't knock the backpackers.  I've met some EXCEPTIONALLY hot euro, canadian, and aussie chicks at hostels.  I actually even prefer the hostel backpacker chicks to the local colombianas.  Heck, you can even find some very hot and friendly asian girls at the hostels.  I can't stress it enough, hostels are an absolute goldmine for pulling chicks.

Where did you meet this girl who's young enough to be your great-granddaughter?  Cupid site?

And as sleazy and shameful as your lifestyle is, I hope to be doing the EXACT SAME THING as you when I'm your age jaja!!!  The only difference I hope I'll be married, but that just means I'll have my little 20 year old novias on the side, kind of hidden away.   ;)
