good to see you Howard

i would also like to add that even if you go to see the board of nursing people in person

for your state, they don't always know what they are talking about.

which can result in your new wife's nursing degree being nearly worthless

(Oh come on over your all set)

(sorry we screwed up, your not all set)

(in fact go kick rocks)

been there done that man

there are plenty of ladies in the PI working as a private nurse

they have never passes the national nursing exam

so they are not an RN

but they are allowed to work THERE but not here

my wife ended up getting a job cleaning hotel rooms

& starting from basically square one

Piggy!!!

It's good to see that you are doing so well, brother!

I love the update... looks like things are progressing nicely for you

I'm very happy to see that :)

as soon as i am finished school (2 years) my wife will go take time off from work & take the 2 semesters she needs

so she can at least be a practical nurse here in the states.

then she wants a baby

we are not ready for a baby just yet

but we are practicing as often as we can ;)

This is the info I found:

http://eegmed.com/philippines/nclexphilippines.html

from what I read - and this has changed in the last several years - for an additional 150.00 you can take the exam in Manila and have it directly forwarded to your State Licensing Board.  In our case, my wife has been out of school too long and would require the appropriate amount of continuing education, per the State of Michigan Nursing Board's requirements.  There is just no way this is going to happen for us, unfortunately.  My wife would have to take her classes in the Philippines, where her degree is recognized and then prepare for the NCLEX in Manila.  The cost and time away is just too prohibitive for us.

I mention these things because it makes our misfortunes easier to take if we can help others avoid the same mistakes.  I've got nothing to complain about, my life is good... I just hate the fact that my wife dreamt of becoming a nurse and will probably never be one.  We were inches away and with more current information may have seen her efforts come to fruition.

PearsonVue has an 800 number on their main site - which is American - I would call them directly for the necessary steps to take.  The thing to consider is how long your wife has been out of school.  It's a very difficult test and if she has been out for a long  period of time, no matter how intelligent she is, she may have trouble passing the test.  So many things change every year that someone only a year or two out of school may not have enough knowledge of the most current course material

Good Luck :)

Thanks Gents,

My sister in law just passed the Philippine national exam for RNs, so we're just getting familiar with all this, but time does matter, obviously. Seems the individual states and the hospitals in the USA hold the operative cards that make it happen, but I have heard of Filipinas who could get over here on a tourist visas getting hired by USA hospitals. The Valedictorian at my wife's university (just one student ahead of my wife!) is working in Jacksonville FL under such circumstances--she was a CPA by trade in the Philippines, then got her RN!

I've marked these sites so far...

And now:  http://eegmed.com/philippines/nclexphilippines.html

Howard--I spent a lot of years in Michigan--most of my family lives outside of Detroit and I went to school at WMU--Kalamazoo! I miss it. (in the summer and Fall anyway)

Thanks again, guys and best of luck--BTW, Piglett--as we've previously discussed, GREAT choice of car there--we have a 1997 Toyota that's probably the most reliable car in the neighborhood!

Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

What do you guys say to these girls on these dating sites? It seems like a lot of these girls are either BSing me or not interested.

Should I game them like I do with girls in the US? Lol
