I'm back
« on: February 13, 2013, 07:23:56 PM »
Did you miss me? Yes it's batman from the old gringos.com board. I see some familiar names.  Hey Mickey thanks for showing me your city. Bummer about Dennis Levy. Just found out a year late.  How is Nelson doing, and is Charlie still going strong? Anybody been to LAI in bogota lately? I read on the Internet that many agencies in Colombia are closing...something to do with webcams being the latest rage.  Which agencies in Colombia are still up? If you like say howdy.  8)

By webcams I suspect you mean porn. I wouldn't doubt it.
The future of international dating are social networking sites... free social networking sites to be exact. One's that make their money on advertising.

I think he means people just connecting through social sites and chatting with webcams as opposed to meeting through a marriage agency.

But I'd like to hear anyone's take on how online porn killed the marriage agency scene in Colombia. jajaja

That was a very long time in the BatCave.  Welcome back,  hope all is well.

bcc - CP -

Just guessing here,  but.  I think that a WELL run agency in most of the major cities here would fly.  Use Jamie's as a template.  Dating sites,  bad economy,  etc.  and Jamie is STILL doing well.  Why?  Because he takes care of business (he actually does what he says- very un-Colombian).  I have never used one, but there are certainly guys that do and still would pay for the 'hand holding',  if the product is good. The agency route probably fits well for guys that want the help and it keeps them in their 'comfort zone'.

I don't think "webcams" was in reference to any sort of porn. I think it is in reference to Skype, MSN, Gmail, etc., etc. Why use an agency when you can search online and then video call for a long time before you go to the expense and risk of travel?

There are some reasons to use an agency but it is not as compelling as previously.

Even electronic translation is becomming so much easier and more accurate.

In addition as more people do this sucessfully on their own, then it becomes a greater trend.

All good points,  total agreement.

I am opposite of an 'agency type of guy'.  I like rolling on my own and do not want any 'help' (read - interference) from anyone.  NOT putting anybody down,  but guys that may be a little timid,  not much time,  feel like they need a little support,  etc.,  I still think that a 'GOOD'  agency could be viable here.

I did read some of the 'hype'  from this 'Medellin Experience'  and my own opinion,  this guy is blowing massive amounts of smoke - "all Paisa women are virtuous 10's that are desperately looking for a gringo" paraphrased by me.  Still it read like a big wagon load of ca-ca.

hey pinhead since you don't use agencies why don't you stfu with the psychology about the men that do?  Your last two idiotic contributions in which you put every other word in single quotes look like half assed shots at guys that choose to use an agency, as if you are a higher quality dogmeat.  I'm planning using an agency this year and your intellectual musings are the same cowdung you are complaining about regarding the medllin experience.

Nice post.  Name calling,  telling people they should "STFU".  A public board were opinions are posted,  but,  you think I should keep mine to myself.  Good enough,  that is your opinion.

No where did I elevate myself,  nor did I say,  or infer,  that a guy using an agency was better or worse than a guy that did not use an agency.

There was no psychology,  on my part,  about men that do use an agency.  I listed a couple of reasons why one might use an agency,  that's all.

My point was that agencies,  in my worthless opinion,  are a viable option for some.  What you got out of reading my posts was some very negative things,  that I did not say.  Those come from you and your own perspective and point of view.  You wrote some very reactionary dribble.

Hey Buelah, what happened to you?
You started on this forum very positive. Lately you have been very judgemental and now you are down to name calling.
Mate, we are on your side. We want you to do well. There are always a few hot heads on here but almost everyone wants to support the genuine wife hunter.
Please start with that assumption when you read people's view points.
Micky is a good guy. He isn't out to put down guys that look for a wife in Colombia.

I can see how webcams and social networking sites would take a bite out of agency business…
still agencies have value, hopefully the ones that provide good service can make enough revenue to stay afloat.

I only used the internet and web cam. Then I just got on a plane. I didn't even use the few connections I had in Colombia to introduce me to anyone. However I really can't advise people to do exactly the same as me.

I am not going to say I was just lucky. On the other hand, the risks I took and the likelihood of someone else being able to get the same result.....mmm

Our story is an example of what is possible. It doesn't mean someone else would get the same result.

That disclaimer aside, the fact is that the internet/web cam did work really well for us. In fact we could not have wished for more. In addition, I personally would not have risked so much without knowing there was someone I had already built a rapport with, waiting for me.

In the end, as has been said countless times before. The biggest factor is yourself.

Thanks for the comp.  I'll send you 5k COP,  that will be half my winnings off Htown from our Nacional/Medellin bet.

VM gave his short version of his path to getting it done.  Stating he would not recommend his way to everyone,  although it worked great for him.  The common factor in all of our "plans" -  we got on a plane.

I do not know,  but I do not think anyone here really cares how a guy chooses to go.  Internet dating sites,  agencies,  those tour group deals,  facebook,  meeting on a bus or at the market.  I hope that everyone finds what will make them happy.  We all have our opinions on this and that,  bla,  bla,  bla,  but don't we all REALLY pull for each other?

Ultimately, I hope so.  Every guy and gal here has their own comfort zone, so there is no one perfect way to go about it.

I haven't traveled yet so I don't have much to comment about the ladies yet. I learn and relate with some of the guys getting verbally lambasted
