Bob,

I had to look up the meaning of "euphemism' and I'm still not sure! That's one of those 'twenty dollar' words, ya know!

I tend to substitute or just plain make up my own words, I'll demonsplain what I mean when I have more time.

You see, our family lineage goes wayyy back to the original cheaters at the game of Scrabble.

The Hatfields and McCoys were rather nice compared to us when it comes to Scrabble and in deciding whether or not a word is REALLY a bonafide 'word' or just something that 'sounds like a word'.

Finally my late Aunt Nina got each and every one of us those absolutely huge and heavy two volume Oxford Unabridged Dictionaries of the English language. They weigh 40 pounds if they weigh an ounce and even then, come with a very strong hand magnifier to read the tiny print. You've probably seen them. They'll either give you a brain hemorrhage or a hernia, if you're not careful.

Those dictionaries have saved a lot of carnage in our family, God bless Aunt Nina's soul!

But to look at those dictionaries, it's easy to see why foreigners have such a tough time learning English--it seems every word has at least five possible definitions/uses!

I know what you mean Robert, except ours was a Webster's Unabridged. Massive book, I swear it was 18"x11" and nearly 8" thick using fine print and Bible style tissue thin paper. We all called it the big dic.

We also had 'guaguitas' where I lived. There is a city in the Philippines named 'Guagua.'
