I was encouraging you to learn more Spanish for a few reasons.  One, is that if you speak Spanish at the conversational level you will be able to know more prospective Latinas.  Some women will not consider a foreign man if they do not speak their language. 

As you are probably aware, unlike Europe, most Latinas (and Americans) do not speak more than one language.  You will not only broaden your search if more fluent but you will be able to communicate more with your future wife and help her transition into a foreign country learning a new culture and language, something she will deeply appreciate. 

Some people have a difficult time learning another language and take longer to become proficient.  Another poster here who is married to an intelligent Colombiana, has been living in the US for a few years and they prefer to speak in Spanish at home.  It was a very smart move on his part to become proficient in her native tongue.

It is THEIR loss, not mine!  I can always look for another woman if she doesn't want a foreigner that do not speak their language.  At least I am learning Spanish, but I do not need to know EVERYTHING because I am not planning to live there.  If they want to live in men's countries, they MUST learn their languages.

I met my ex' almost' girlfriend in Cali.  We communciated by Spanish.  We did very well without hiring a translator.  I refused to use the translator because I want to know how well we communicate without using it.  I did not want to use it while we were visiting the zoo.   We communicated very basic.  We got on very well. 

Before I got back home, I gave her many books to learn English, because she told me that she wants to learn English very much.  I was over the moon and told her that I will continue on learning Spanish.

After 2 months of corresponding with her, she does not know any English words and did not bother to try to learn it.  She told me that she did not have time, because of her work.    A week before, she complaint that she was doing nothing at night and is always bored. .............   It is different story!!!

It is hard for me to learn Spanish because I have business to run and it is long hours - day and night and also weekends.

IF A GIRL DOES NOT WANT TO LEARN ENGLISH, THEN SHE IS NOT FOR ME.  I DO NOT WANT TO TAKE THE RISK OF SENDING HER BACK HOM FROM ENGLAND. 

I am looking for a lady who is willingly to learn English and proves that she is learning.   I do not believe in 'no time' excuses like she did.

Your experience with the lady who could not find the time to study English is unfortunately rather common and more so with the coastal cities and Cali.  The women who live in these areas and are aggressive and want to get ahead in their life often move to Bogota where there are more employment opportunities .  In Bogota you will find many bi-lingual ladies as it is an international city and many multi-national companies are headquartered there.  Buenas suerte !

This is my experience as well.  You can meet many self-motivated, educated, bilingual women in Bogota.

Don't fret and try not to get overly sensitive with some of the guys.  I agree with you 100%.  If she lives in America, (or in your case England, I guess) she needs to learn English.  Period.  If she is moving to Japan, she needs to learn Japanese.  All you need to do is send her to English school while she's in Colombia if your thinking about marriage.  My wife knew 0% english when I met her...I sent her to school and in about 3-5 months or so we were talking in english on the telephone.  She would get up about 430am, start her english class at 6am and then go to work at 730am.  I used a spanish book to speak to her in spanish before that.  While your sending her to school...you can judge if she's really learning or just taking your money.  Better to find out while she's there in Colombia than when she gets to your country.  You might be out a few hundred bucks...but it beats wasting a few thousand on visa stuff.  She practiced English in her school and with me, that was it...until she came to America.

Your request and requirement is not in the slightest an unreasonable requirement, in my opinion.

Calm down, UK. I actually agree with you, in that Latin woman who want to come to the U.S, need to learn english. You have to take each situation differently. Some women just don't have the time to study as much as they want to. When you working 10 hrs a day, and traveling to and from work(which can be an hour or more each way), and then possibly have to take care of their child, it's a lot. Their situation is very different than mine and yours, as i'm sure you know from going down there. Some guys send money to their girl,(who they are going to bring up), so they can focus on studying and not have to work. Just realize it's difficult, and you can't really compare their learning capabilities to yours, because it's entirely different.

You have some  anger issues it seems . All i am saying is that there are very few people that they can actually have an english conversation with. They go to class, learn the grammer and that is all good, but who are they going to speak with to practice and a webcam is not a substitute for face to face. Don't worry UK....you'll find someone that fits your goals - there are lots of latinas that are bilingual or semi-bilingual that are looking for a great guy...you are dead-right..unless she is willing to learn and use some english with you before she becomes your fiance, she will not be the woman of your dreams.....I know..because your critieria is the SAME as mine (language wise) and I have had NO PROBLEMA  (spanish lingo!)   

You are also perceptive UK...you caught her talking out of both sides of her mouth..one night she says she is bored (a complainer, drop her, move on) and another night she says she is too busy to study english..you caught her in a lie...find a Colombian that doesn't lie when she disagrees with you - instead she will honestly say she doesn't want to learn english...then drop her and move on.  Find a latina that tells the truth, always...they are there, particularly in the "middle class" of Colombia.

I agree with you 100% about sending her to English-language school to learn.  I need to find the perfect lady first.  If I send her to school, and she doesn't bother to attend.  It would be a waste of money.   A girl whom I have corresponded for 2 months after meeting her in Cali.  I gave her some books for her to look at, but she did not even look a page!!  I was more worried about paying her for the school when she doesn't bother to attend.   She did not even show interests in my language - not even 'How are you? or simple 'Hello'. 

Anyway, we are no longer together ..........  After knowing her personality, I do not think she is the type of girl who is willingly to learn another language.

I am finding the PERFECT woman for me otherwise I wouldn't be looknig for a Latina.  I do not look for a woman based on their looks only. 

There are many Latin women who know basic English at least, so why shoudl I find a woman who are not willingly to learn English. 

I do not mind to find a woman who doesn't speak any words of English as long as she shows interest and is willingly to learn.   Many women would say 'I will learn English' but they do not show it.

I am DEAF which means learning another language will be much harder than Spanish-speaking person learning English.

If I can learn Spanish, so can they.  I know many basic Spanish (written only)

I have already moved on ......... and have 2 Peruvian girls and 3 Colombian girls that I am corresponding with.  At the moment, I find very difficult to choose.  I hate to have to make the decision.    4 of them came from LatinAmericanCupid and 1 of them came from Newspaper Ads.

You need a lot more ladies to correspond with because the chances are all the ladies you are corresponding with are not going to work out for you..

In South Florida, speaking English is optional at best...amazing but true! EVERYWHERE IS SPANISH! Most of my neighbors, store clerks, etc. don't speak English and I live in the Ft. Lauderdale area, not in the heart of Miami-Dade County.

                    I hear ya Soltero.I did alot of travelling myself and I think that it is possible to prefer one country to another but I learned to look more at each individual woman. That is more important,IMO.
