My experience with Sweet Singles in Bangkok

I thought I'd post my recent experiences with the 'Sweet Singles' agency located in Bangkok, which lists Thai women interested in relationships with foreign men.  I am not a very good writer, so please forgive me, but I will try my best.  I realize there are many guys out there with questions about the various agencies and websites, so hopefully I can shed some light on this one agency.

The reason why I chose Thailand to seek a potential partner was because I previously visited the country and fell in love with it.  Like many men, I have also experienced nothing but frustration and failure in the American dating game.  I've joined American dating website after website, you name it, I joined it, Yahoo!, American Singles, cherry blossoms, match.com, eharmony, etc. etc.  Over 8 years and not even ONE date from those websites.  And don't even mention the numerous 'hookups' from my co-worker's friend and relatives that flopped after the second and third dates.  There's not really a market for us older short guys.

After deciding on Thailand as my country of choice, I started looking at the various Thai dating websites, and the one that caught my attention was Sweet Singles.  I felt it was a really dynamic website, with lots of pictures and enthusiasm from the staff.  After deciding at the last minute to take a 2 week vacation to Bangkok, I also signed up for the 7 day introductory meeting membership.  This membership costs $699 (that's what VISA cards are for) and includes the following:  7 days of face to face introductions with the ladies of your choice at Sweet Singles Bangkok office and 6 months of unlimited access to all women in the database (women are divided into 'special ladies' and 'sweet ladies').  As a bonus, if you book a hotel through Sweet Singles, not only do you get a discount, but if you book for longer than 7 days, you get an additional 7-10 extra days of meeting ladies at the Sweet Singles office.  The biggest selling point for me was that their office helped to introduce Thai ladies for face to face meetings.  This to me at least shows that both parties are committed to finding a serious relationship.  Many other dating websites simply give out only e-mail and personal information of women, with no real guidance on meeting them in a foreign country (a big reason why I never went anywhere with cherry blossoms, which seemed to be filled with women only interested in flirting with me). 

For my stay in Bangkok, I was booked at the T.K. Palace hotel in Loksi (Chaeng Wattahna).  It was a decent hotel, nothing spectacular, nice staff.  The only drawback to this hotel is that it is about 30 minutes or so away from downtown Bangkok, where all the tourist spots are, but it is closer to the Sweet Singles office by comparison.  They do offer hotels closer to central Bangkok if one prefers, and some women are willing to meet you at the hotel, but most of the Thai ladies that want to meet you prefer to do so at the Sweet Singles office (perfectly understandable, many American dating websites advise the first date to be in a public area for safety, so a foreigner meeting someone in another country only magnifies things).

A few days before I arrived in Bangkok, I gave the Sweet Singles office a big list of women I was interested in off their website.  Unfortunately, because this was on such short notice, I met at best two women from the list.  A big reason is that many of the women actually live in other provinces far away from Bangkok, something I neglected to check, and require notice ahead of time.  Nonetheless, with the posting of my profile, I still had other women very interested in meeting with me in Bangkok.  During my stay, I met with about 10 women at the office.  The office itself is not very big, but it was fun to sit down on the couch and talk with each of these women.  Most spoke good English, and a few not so good, but Ms. Bee (one of the owners I believe) was able to translate for us.  I would like to note that some days I was busy sightseeing, so I did not meet any women.  I also went on extended dates with several of the ladies I met at the office, usually going out to eat, sightsee, or watch a movie.  For the most part I truly enjoyed talking with and going out with these ladies.  To go from zero dating in the U.S. to meeting new ladies almost everyday was a blast.

The women I met came in many sizes and shades, some dark, some lighter, some absolutely gorgeous, many educated with university degrees and having a good job and career.  All of them, when I asked, expressed a desire to sincerely meet someone for a serious relationship.  It's no different I suppose than that millions of successful professional American women who join dating websites in droves.  It did feel a bit awkward some days when three ladies would be waiting to speak with you, and speaking with one while the others sit on the couch waiting their turn.  I also had one lady tell me that if I was going to be meeting other ladies, that she no longer wanted to be in contact with me.  Several of the ladies came from provinces farther up north, and spent several hours by taxi to visit the office.

There is one lady from one of the provinces up north that I felt a real connection to when we met at the office.  She actually came by taxi, an approximate 3 hour ride, in order to meet with me. Unfortunately she does not speak English well at all, but with hand gestures and simple words I felt we had a lot of chemistry.  We e-mail each other regularly now, and I hope to see her again soon.  And I still get e-mails from other ladies frequently.

All in all, I would definitely say that I had an amazing experience with Sweet Singles.  Contrary to what I read about the company, I was never charged anything extra besides the 7 day introductory membership.  The staff was very helpful in arranging meetings with many women, and will work with you depending on your goals and desires.  They are great at arranging ladies to meet you from scratch if you have no real idea of whom to choose or meet with.  The only thing I would do differently is that I would have joined a little earlier before going to Bangkok.  This way, I could have received e-mails from interested ladies, perhaps gotten to know them better, and then met them in Bangkok.  Also, in this way the Sweet Singles' staff could better plan on coordinating which ladies of your choice would be willing to meet you in person because some of them live far away.

If anyone out there have any questions for me, please feel free to ask.  Obviously not everyone's going to have as great an experience as I did.

TK Palace is where I always stay in Bangkok since it is close to Don Muang Airport and I have seen BKK ad nauseum over the years.

I also recommend the Bourbon Street Guest House at Sukhumvit Soi 22. Owned by an ex-pat from New Orleans.

Glad you had a decent experience with Sweet Singles. I used them back in 2000-2001. Bee is the owner. It is located right down the expressway from DOn Muang airport.

I liked TK Palace but as this was my first time in Bangkok, I was drawn to the central downtown Bangkok area as that is where all the sights were.  I could and did spend all day just walking around the various shopping complexes like center world and MBK.  There's nothing like it around where I live, just huge multi story complexes some with zoos on top and others with acquariums on bottom, and food stores galore.  The food court in siam paragon was unbelievable.

But TK was good to get away from the crowds and nightlife of central Bangkok.  Across the street is a Big C shopping complex and next to that is another complex with restaurants and a movie theater where I went on a few dates.

Past the Big C is Tesco Lotus and about a mile or so further down Chaengwattana Rd is the TOT. You really want to go there. These are wholesalers trying to find distributors so you can get realy cool products very cheaply as samples. 

The exhibition area is about 1/2 by 1/2 mile in area. thousands of vendors.

I started staying at TK in 2000 when it was next to the international airport-the airport moved, not the hotel. Theyused to promise me that the pool would be ready on my next visit- it took 2 years.

Sounds great. I wouldn't have thought (not sure why I wouldn't have) there would be a lot of English speakers, that's a big plus. Glad to hear you had a good trip.

Thanks jm21-2.  Actually, I guess the ladies' ability to speak English is a relative one.  Out of the 10 or so women I met, only one I would consider a very good English speaker.  She was about 25 years old, graduated from university, and was about to start her masters degree.  She was the only one I could communicate with easily with no problems understanding each other.  The others varied, with some I could speak English in everyday simple conversations, but most spoke simple English and had to rely on a dictionary and hand gestures to communicate (outside of the sweet singles office). 

William3rd, the pool was nice.  One of the benefits I had booking TK through Sweet Singles was free usage of the pool, gym, and spa facilities.  They were building something else in front of the hotel though I don't know what it is.  I am intrigued by the wholesale thing, I don't know much about business but is there a job opportunity in getting these products to the market?  What kind of things are they?

i wasnt sure about the website as i heard that they paid models to be on the front as well as in the sweet single of the month.  Did you actually get to meet them? Also the really popular ones with professional pictures i had heard were ringers and had become high maintenaince almost westernized?  Any truth to that??

I think I read that too somewhere, we must have read the same thing lol.

Personally, I have no idea whether the owners would do something like that.  I have met the owners as I discussed and they were very nice and professional to me.  They wanted to really work with me to accomodate my schedule and desires.  Plus if you look at all the pictures of the sweet singles of the month, no offense but some of them I wouldn't exactly call singles of the month. 

Interestingly, my first visit there I saw sitting on the couch one of the ladies that used to be a sweet single of the month.  If anyone recalls, she had pictures of her on the beach in her bikini, and what looked like a tattoo on her belly area (she was sweet single of the month a few months ago but her pictures gone for some reason).  She looked pretty hot in person.  I'm e-mailing one sweet single of the month lady, didn't have a chance to meet her when I was in Bangkok but we're corresponding now.

The thing is, the sweet singles site has new ladies joining all the time.  You're bound to meet all kinds of women with varying backgrounds.  I'm sure some of them are high maintenance, some flaky, some good, etc. etc.  That's just the way it is odds wise, and the same anywhere you go in the world.  You can't expect all women of a country to act the same.  One of the ladies I went out on a date with was definitely what I would consider high maintenance.  She came to our meeting at the sweet singles office dressed in some tight pink dress and full makeup, as if she were going to a club.  She didn't speak english too well but she never went to university, lived at home, and did some work helping out her brother.  She asked if I wanted to go clubbing later, she was hot as heck, about 23, but total high maintenance type.  Not my kind.

Many of the women also live in other provinces besides bangkok.  I met two who worked at a hospital about four hours north of Bangkok, they came in person just to sign up for sweet singles.  Both were absolutely gorgeous.  But that's the advantage I felt, you had the chance to meet many women of different backgrounds and whatnot, so you can get a feel for who you think is right for you.

I didn't mean to ramble on (late night from work).  But what i was trying to say is that sweet singles has many female members and new ones joining all the time.  There are many that are as beautiful or more so than those that are featured as the sweet singles of the month I think.  That included some of the women I met personally at the office.  So there's no way the singles of the month are the best of the best or just a select few out of the hundreds of ladies there.  Hope I'm clearer now.
