Currency exchange in BAQ
« on: December 15, 2017, 01:38:24 PM »
Will be visiting BAQ for first time since 2011. Any recommendations for good places to exchange dollars for pesos?

Don't even think it! Whats a matter with you man? Just bring a debit card to use at ATM machines. You will get a far, far better exchange rate!

Still over 3000 USD/COP exchange rate, looks pretty good to go for the Yankee dollar....

It was 1.75 last time i was there so i shouldn't spend too much. We're staying with my wife's parents so no hotel expense. Just hoping not to get mugged as the risk apparently is higher this time of year....

Sounds great to stay with family. That allows you to spend more on meals, activities etc. We're staying stateside, but will spend 3 or 4 days in Atlanta. I'm already paying for a nice furnished apartment in Athens, GA for my student son, who attends UGA. He won't  there (home for the 'winter' break) so we'll crash there, drive the hour into Atlanta. My wife has already plotted out restaurants and other places to visit in "Hotlanta".

But home or abroad, street crime and burglaries are more common around Christmas time, just when many let their guard down, thinking peace and goodwill is more prevalent....

Does the family live in Soledad? If so could be somewhat riskier but not necessarily. I spent a New Years Eve in Soledad years ago. Lots of blowing up the poor old Año Viejo with fireworks but no untoward experiences in the barrio...well save for a vicious case of Giardia from a visit some years later.

No, not Soledad. Further south. Actually i think we're ok in the hood because her parents have been there more than 30 years. It's more out and about , that i think i might be more of a target....
