Newbie engaged to be married
« on: July 30, 2006, 05:42:49 PM »
I just came back yesterday from my first trip to Colombia(Barranquilla). I am engaged to be married. I am simply ecstatic. We met through Jaime's agency. I went on enough dates(thank God I speak spanish) to determine that this woman is for me. I have contacted the law firm of Gary Bala to begin the K-1 visa process. I realize there are no guarantees in life but I feel I made the right decision by asking her to marry me. I will be writing a trip report. No doubt my decision will draw ridicule from many on this board but there is no absolutely right or wrong way to go about seeking a foreign bride.

Steve,
Congratulations on your engagement.  It sounds like you are very happy, and with good reason.  Who cares if you get a little flack, the important thing is that you are happy as is she.

Best of luck.

Looking forward to your trip report.

You are darn right your going to be critized but not by me! We are all big boys here and do things the way we want to.  Hopefully you chose well and obviously what you do during your marriage will either make or break it.  I await more details in your trip report.

Congrats!

Steve, that's great news. I'm really happy for you. I myself will be using Jamie's services in December or January and am looking forward to it even more now that I've read your post. Tell me more about your strategy. What works and what doesn't? As far as criticism goes, forget the critics and enjoy your life, brother. Take care and I wish you the best of luck.

Actually, I think everyone is scared sh@tless to post something bad, they don't want to get banned.  Best wishes to you, you have your work cut out for you.  In the USA, 50% of marriages fail here, even knowing each other for a long time, so screw it.  I say go for it, the hardest part is after you are married no matter how long you know each other.  Good luck!

Congratulations, Steve!

If you've read up on my posts, I don't know how many of the survived the archive switchover from PL, then you may know that I also met my wife through Jamie's agency.

Irrespective of how long someone has known their spouse/potential spouse, I always encourage people to check out www.marriagebuilders.com.

that is great steve! I echo all the other sentiments, who cares as long as you and her are happy together. you seem very happy.
look at all these arranged marriages that take place in other parts of the world like the orient, southern italy, india etc where the man and wife literally never meet until the wedding day and those marriages end up lasting until death do they part.
and then we have here in the usa people who marry after knowing and dating each other for 7 years and they end up getting divorced after a few years.
no magic formula for what is the right way and wrong way.

A1A,

nobody is scared believe me!

We're happy that HE is Happy!!! As well we should be, because helping each other find our own way to happiness is the only thing this is about & important! Trying to tell others how to live their lives is BS.

Again CONGRATS Steve!!

I want to thank everyone for their support.
For Chi-Ung Lopez my strategy in a nutshell was to start out dating many women through the personal introductions tour (group and individual dates) and then to narrow it down to two women I dated and then to dating that one special person I really liked and seeing where the relationship headed. The trip report will contain more details.

Steve,

Congratulations! I wish you life-long happiness.

Anyone who attacks someone after he just made an engagement announcement is real low class. So far so good but consider the source if it happens.

again, congrats!

Amen to that.

An unfortunate trend I've found in foreign dating discussions is when people take the same negative stances and use verbatim the same hateful language as the people (i.e.  femnazis, "player" types) who casually ridicule, or are opposed to the men pursuing foreign women for serious relationships.

Hey congratulations on your news. You have to do what makes you happy. I hope everything works out for you. I've been married for one year now. She's from Cali. It's a lot of work but I know in the end it will be worth it. Keep us posted.
