Hey everyone, Long time no talk!
« on: July 18, 2012, 09:50:29 PM »
Hey all, Haven't posted in a long time and just seeing how your all doing. I did something completely crazy and I will leave in the first week of September to Nanjing china to teach English for a year. As much as I love my FF job, it was time for me to get out and quit complaining about learning Chinese and finding a good Chinese wife. Anyways I know i am completely mad but F*** it we only live once!

I haven't read anything from the pig recently i am curious to how the married life is going and if she is here in the states?? Also Asian forum is too quiet those latin guys have like an average forum post of 1 per 3 minutes  ;D

Hi Brett,

Wow Nanjing! The last posts that I remember you making, you were talking about Filipinas and were planning a trip to the PI - what made you decide to refocus on China? I think that you will enjoy yourself during your 1 year working vacation, just be prepared for some initial culture shock if you have never been to China  - but that should quickly fade.

What sort of school will you be teaching at - primary school, high school, university? Good luck on your new job and with your search for that special lady. Hopefully you will strike gold in China - I sure did!

Capstone I was planning on A Filipina, But the religion aspect kept getting in the way. I will be teaching at a primary school 8-12 year olds. When thinking of a country and after reading a lot post. If i were to marry i will also be marrying the culture. I have always been interested in Chinese culture and food so that's what lead me to it. Initially I was interested in china but my first contact with a chinese girl was one from Shanghai who wanted to get married after the first 3 emails  :o . So Philippines seemed better until the religion aspect worked its way in.

Anyways I am really looking forward to a new adventure

This American Life on NPR did a great story about Expats in China.  I really enjoyed listening to it.  You should check it out in their radio archive.

Good luck in your adventure and I do hope you provide some updates.

Thanks!

I know the feeling.  I did exactly the same thing, excep replace China with Japan.  Took about a 60% pay cut, but was absolutely worth it.  And I met quite a few guys doing the same thing.  And I don't mean living the dream chasing easy poon, but when with the intention of finding a wife while there.  It's the best way to go in my opinion if you are willing to take the financial hit for a year or three.

Hi Brett,
           Enjoy your stay in China.

Yep, the Asian side have been quiet, I cannot speak for the others but I have been extremely busy and my "schedule" is just getting back to "normal". I am currently traveling (in Georgia now),  I wanted to handout with Robert but he too is traveling.

Me & the wife were planning a trip to the PI for this October but too much is going on so we decided to postpone it till next spring. On that trip I (we) may make a stop in Leshan to see the giant buddha there.

I was hoping that the pigster would come and give us an update. Yes, his wife is here with him in New England - I chatted with them the week she arrived. Not sure how the adjustment is going as I haven't heard from him (them) in over a month.
If we were all forced to wear a warning label, what would yours say?

I haven't seen any updates on the Piggglett...I hope his marriage didn't fizzle out already, he seemed like a very and trusting and nice guy. Last I remember he was waiting for his wife to arrive here after some sort of test or something.
