Sending Free text messages

This have been around for a while and can be useful to a few.

You can send text message to a cell phone via your email account. It is done the same way as if you were sending a regular email. But instead of putting a regular email address in the "To" box - you would put one of the below.

~ AT&T – cellnumber@txt.att.net
~ Verizon – cellnumber@vtext.com
~ T-Mobile – cellnumber@tmomail.net
~ Sprint PCS - cellnumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com
~ Virgin Mobile – cellnumber@vmobl.com
~ US Cellular – cellnumber@email.uscc.net
~ Nextel - cellnumber@messaging.nextel.com
~ Boost - cellnumber@myboostmobile.com
~ Alltel – cellnumber@message.alltel.com
~ Cricket- Cellnumber@sms.mycricket.com or cellnumber@mms.mycricket.com

Just replace where it say cellnumber with the actual cell number - example if you want to send a text to a AT&T number then cellnumber@txt.att.net will change to 0001234567@txt.att.net with 0001234567 being the recipient cell number.

I just tried sending to both AT&T & T-Mobile cells & they worked.

Also via email
~ Via Yahoo Email - Just choose "text message " under "New", then type in the 10-digit cell number. Same way as if you was sending an email. 
~ Via Google voice - Go to google.com/voice and click on text then select from your contacts or enter new number you want to text.

Might want to be sure which network the phone setup for first. TracFone uses Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T for CONUS operations.

I'm now on StraightTalk, another TracFone/AmericaMovil subsidiary. $45/month for unlimited data/minutes/text on the AT&T network using my iPhone 3GS. (No need for unlocking, it is a rebranded AT&T sim. Just need to jailbreak to change the settings for MMS to work. Too bad you have to spend $200 on one of the Nokia smartphones to do this, they are the only ones with non-phone locked sim cards.)


You can use @mms.att.net for sending pictures and it works, both on AT&T and StraightTalk. I am not sure if AT&T charges them as MMS messages for only text sent to those addresses, so beware of that before you start a multi-hundred part conversation. Might want to stick to @txt.att.net unless you actually want to send photos. FYI, if the person getting a text on AT&T replies it will work and send it to the originator.

Yep ... I knew TracFone used a variety of other networks. I posted the number@mms.att.net because I know it worked for me to and from my e-mail address. But I did not verify other networks. Sorry for the lack of info. Thankfully Woody picked it up...
