Well i think if asked I could define colombiana... to a new guy accurately...just list all the things i learned and loved about them.
an example: id say what guys like about colombianas are they are "carinosa, fun, feminine, usually believe in family values, have some spark for life in their soul"

But i could not do so about philipinas.

So what generally defines "philipina" for alot of guys what atrracts guys to philipinas the way many guys are attrracted to Clombianas...

curious

Hey vallenatoman,

Welcome to the Asian Board!

I will let the other guys speak for themselves, but what attracted me top my Filipina wife is her:

Beauty, intelligence, was educated, loving, hard working, conservative in the street, (what happens behind closed doors is our little Asian Board secret)  ::) honest, kind, caring, understanding, calm, rational, responsible, not demanding, loyal, faithful, puts her family first (especially her kids and husband, brave, tough when she needs to be, (it is starting to sound like a girl scout thing),  ;D didn't play games, treasured finding a good man, accepted me for who I am, spoke English (I didn't want to learn another language, having already learned Spanish.), very adaptable to different environments and cultures,...and about a million other things!

I dated or was married (12.5 years) to Latinas for 31 years. I wanted a change...and can not express how grateful I am to have found my wife! But, to each their own. Some men have found great Latinas. I wasn't that lucky. All the really good ones that I seemed to meet were already married. Some that probably would have been OK,  already had a ton of baggage at a very young age. Everyone has different likes and dislikes. Not all Filipinas are like my wife. I got very lucky IMHO! But, I think that there is a larger percentage of this type of woman in Asia than in the Americas or Europe.

DON'T BE IN A HURRY! You could find a thousand or more women in the Philippines (on chat or MOB sites) that would marry you today...but, believe me, you don't want them and won't be happy further down the road!

You will notice that the Philippines seems familiar, having a lot of Spanish culture. They belonged to Spain for 377 years, which is longer than Colombia or any other Latin Amerian country, except Puerto Rico or Cuba. Spain held onto the Philippines that long, partly by avoiding teaching the masses Spanish. They wanted to avoid easy communication among various groups of people, which would have made it easier to organize and revolt like in LA. There are still thousands of Spanish words in the many Filipino languages (Chavacano having the most). Filipinos piked up on and taught themselves many Spanish words. They are often spelled a bit differently, because Filipinos spelled them like they sounded and were usually not formally taught Spanish. (ex. carne=karne, guapo=gwapo)

There are 7107 islands in the Philippines (high tide) and over 170 languages spoken. Filipino (basically Tagalog) being the national language, with English being the other official language. You can throw away all of those Spanish lessons!  ;D My wife speaks 6 languages, including very good English. I would say that most Filipinos can speak and understand at least some English. (Much more so than most Latin Americans that I have met.) If they attend a private school and  have a tertiary education (college), their English is usually quite good. But, many do speak English using Spanish vowel sounds and divide a word into as many syllables as there is vowels like most Latin languages.

Thanks for asking! Good Luck!

Dave

Curious,

You should get a book on the Philippine Islands and read up on the history and culture, that would be a good start into getting an insight about the country as a whole.

Then just get on the horse and join a social or meet and greet website to start chatting up some young pinays.  It took me sifting and sorting and chatting with over 300 to find 3 or 4 and then I had t choose one!

There are many many available pinays that will possibly be a good fit for you.

I second Dave in every aspect of his post!

Just a heads up on your spelling and references:

Country- Philippines
Male- filipino, pinoy
Female- filipina, pinay

Good luck,

Zulu

Dave H. sums it all up for you.

Also the word "Philipina" is a name you would give to a female person, just like Jane or Mary and it means a "Lover of Horses".  I think that you was looking to say Filipina.
If we were all forced to wear a warning label, what would yours say?

The curious thing is that in Filipino/Pilipino and its Tagalog root almost all word are gender neutral. More gender nuetral then English, its hard to believe Spain was there for so long considering Spanish puts a gender distinction on most words.

And the gender concept in the English language can be very confusing for Filipinos.  I know Filipinos who have been here for 20-30 years or more, speak very good English, but still haven't gotten a solid grasp on the he/she pronouns.

True in Most Asian languages - Japanese and Chinese have no pronouns at all, except you and I, we and they, and those are used sparingly. There are different words for brother and sister, father and mother, son and daughter, and such but in general there is almost no gender variation in the language, like the Latin based languages.

There's snow on people's houses? Here it has the decency to stay up in the mountains where we can drive up and ski in it when we want, then come back in the afternoon, grab the surfboard and hit the beach. Sunny and 75 today.

there can be real money in ample syrup if you have a good setup
i know an old guy (he is in his 80's) who up until a couple of years ago used to pay all the taxes on his land & he owns 400 acres. I think one year he made somewhere in the area of $12k......not bad for 3 weeks work.
i don't have any sugar maples so i guess i am SOL
