Hello:
I am here to sound the alarm and request your help to defeat a draconian law that we are fighting in Maryland that would require citizens to submit to mandatory criminal background checks and provide their personal life history before they can initiate communicate with a foreigner. The law is patterned after the federal IMBRA law but the MD law is much more intrusive and overarching that it would
prevent sending e mails, text messages, photographs or even statistics to a total stranger in a foreign country. Penalties for the new romance law include up to one year in jail!

The law was being rifled through the MD Legislature and had unanimously passed committees in the MD House and  Senate. But a few MD citizens urgently built a small coalition with a firestorm of resistance with a number of e mails and phone calls. In a stunning development the MD legislature was so alarmed that they decided to hold a second hearing in the MD Senate , a very rare event indeed.

If you value the principles of honesty, fairness and constitutional  issues , regardless of  your state of residence, we are asking your assistance by showing up for the second  hearing to be held in Annapolis, MD, probably within the next 10 days. We need single men and women, married couples, or anyone with a desire to discuss the topic of International dating in a positive light. You can make a difference and help defeat this horrific law! The ideal person should be able to speak clearly and politely for 3-5 minutes. We'll even draft  your words and ideas for you to make it easy.

Another fine example of our govt overstepping it's duties while completely neglecting their real duties, like keeping the border shut.  So I guess they would prefer protesters of this law to smuggle their brides over the Mexican border rather than do by the laws.

In a neighboring city the city council are trying to ban smoking cigarettes in the entire city! I hate cigarette smoke, but what the hell is this country coming to? Next month they are going to legislate at what time of day we are allowed to flush the toilet, and have sexual relations.

These kinds of things happen because we let them and it isn't going to change anytime soon.We are just too divided.Until things get bad enough to make us join together to put a stop to it this kind of nonsense will continue.

Ft, I hear that in bars in California soon there will be no drinking and no talking!! ;D

It's really gotten out of hand and forcing us to have to 'circumvent' the law.

For instance, I had to use a slightly oversized manila envelope to put my wife in and send her here from the Philippines...

A manila from Manila?
(Be a gentleman and use a padded envelope for her comfort.)

The slow boat from Mindanao-COMVAL into Davao City, then onto Manila was the worst part of the trip, although the 14 hour leg of the flight to the USA wasn't too great either...

If you want to fight this you've got to understand where this legislation comes from. Judging by that sentence they aren't worried about green card sharks but American men preying on foreign women.

If you make it about a discriminatory practice against men you can win. Dating is not a crime... nor is meeting women. The democrats in the Maryland congress would run away from discriminating against the LGBT community, women (gender), age, race, etc. You've just got to make that point. Jim Crow laws targeted the african american community unfairly... these laws target american men (granted those set of laws were 100 time worse)... if you want to lose one gender of your voting base go ahead and pass this law.

Bottomline is you've got to show up. When it comes to discrimination everyone else does... you've got to track down some nice guys in Maryland married to foreign women and say to suggest those men are criminals is no different than randomly pointing to a minority and suggesting the same.
