Pride
« on: July 21, 2008, 02:56:31 PM »
I have no problem with people in the US having pride in their heritage, but we should be Americans first! Each month there seems to be a history month celebrating a different minority group. Yet there is no 'White History Month' for the majority. ???  Many whites actually have a blended heritage, often with native American blood. Some whites have a blended heritage, involving cousins and/or other relatives.  ::)  In the end we always seem to be lumped together into one group..."White" which is considered synonymous  with "Redneck," "Cracker," "Gringo," etc.  by many minority groups. So in the spirit of fairness, I would like to celebrate a few of the great achievements of the so called  "White American" majority.

The frightening thing is that some of that stuff looks pretty cool to me. In fact,  I'm thinking about building a few of those things...like the 'personal pontoon boat.'  ;D If somehow my hair would grow back, I would even agree to wear it in a mullet just to have hair.  ;D

Well, I was inspired by your patriotic horse, so here's a response. Are you familiar with Mexican zebras? Indigenous to Tijuana, where they have been entertaining tourists since the 1940's (Ruben and Bimbo have each have personally both been at it for about 20 years). But according to the news article I saw a couple of weeks ago, unfortunately, the Mexican zebras are now in danger of becoming extinct. Of course, since I read the article, I already know, but would anybody care to hazard a guess as to why they are going extinct?

The lead in the paint they use to make the stripes is making them sterile?

PETA opened an office in TJ?

They're bringing back the donkey shows?

OK, I give up...

No, the article said they actually use hair dye intended for humans to paint the stripes and that the zebras don't seem to suffer any ill effects from it (and that they have to be re-done about every week or two).

The reason is the drug cartels are having so many gun battles in the streets that the tourists are afraid to come and now there aren't enough customers for the zebra photographers (nor anybody else who caters to tourists, such as the souvenir vendors, handicraft and art vendors, and restaurants and bars) to make a living.
