Her struggles are fairly typical.
I do agree with her on the food thing. I know several American men married to Filipinas who actually forbid their wives from cooking fish at home. Some guys will not allow them to cook (or even eat) dried fish or dried squid, while others won't even allow the cooking of fresh fish!
I advise any Filipina thinking of marrying a foreigner to first bring him home to her family's house and feed him typical Filipino fare for a few days. If he refuses to even taste some of the traditional foods, then beware.
Most foreigners will readily eat pancit canton, chicken adobo, lumpia, or the sweet deserts, but you may be in for a life without tuyo, pinakbet, sinigang, dinuguan, crispy pata, or even fresh fish with heads on, just to name a few.
And by the same token, Filipinas should be adventurous enough to learn to eat and prepare some of his favorite native dishes also.
