World Cup's Female Appeal--Do You See It Too?

You guys have GF's or wives who are really into the World Cup and all the hoopla that goes with it?

I am pleasantly surprised to see how excited my wife is over the World Cup. Basketball championship series and maybe a few Olympic events I knew she liked, but she actually is screaming in excitement during some of these games! On TV and on-line, we're both following the schedules, learning about how it all works, how it is really the biggest sporting event in the world and how huge the celebrity status some of the leading players enjoy.

While disappointed her country doesn't have a team in the fight, she was excited watching Japan and Korea. She's absolutely delighted that her lunch hour coincides with the second half of the USA-Germany match--we'll watch it together.

There's a great program on Showtime called "60 Minutes Sports' that ran an excellent piece, interviewing Team USA Coach Jurgen Klinsmann and that sort of piqued both our interests before the W.C. even started.

All this buzz has also heightened our interest in Brazil as a nation and setting for the W.C. and upcoming Olympics.

Most women I know are not seriously interested in it other than the eye candy but being the weirdo I am, can't find anyone worth watching in soccer. I kind of like hockey though, I don't have a favorite team or anything, but if I know the last game of the stanley cup is on, I do watch it.

My wife is the ultimate homer. She watches fights only when Congressman Pacquiao is fighting. She watches basketball only when Coach Eric Spoelstra is on the bench. Luckily she will branch out for other forms of entertainment but there is entirely too much Vice Ganda playing in our home these days.
