I m going to re post this as well.....sorry for the typos in the first one. It was late when I wrote it....

I entered Peru today. my first stop is Mancora, a beach resort town  two  hours south of the Ecuador-Peru border.....I got my passport stamped for 180 days.

I have to get used to a new  ew currency, soles....A sole is about 37 cents US  I hired a cab in Tumbes and the guy drove me to Mancora, we drove around until  we found a hotel right across the street form the Pacific Ocean.....39 soles..do the math....jejeje and I had a a langostino and rice dinner.

Tomorrow, I ll walk around town and see what I think...I definitely will visit Lima and Cihicalayo and go inland to Cuzco and then Macchu Picchu.

I started from Guayaqil this morning... a very well  laid out bus terminal.......much better managed  then any terminal I ever saw in Colombia and CLEAN!!!!! .....5 and a half hours to the border....a fare of 5.00 US..,...The border is  not joined like the Rumichaca checkpoint  on the northern border between Ecuador and Colombia....

Along the very southern Ecuadort coast,,,,,other then a town called Machada where there is a lot of construction....... there is nothing noteworthy ..... Construction is basic, concrete poured around posts of joined re bar...so you sere a lot of rebar sticking up from concretr pillars of unfinished buildings.  In Machada I saw a shopping center that looked exactly like  the design of a basic mini Wal Mart center.in the US

An hour from m Machada, You get to Huaqullas bus station,. take a 1.50 cab to the small Ecuador emigration building which has roosters clucking in front of  it...not kididng.............. and then stamp out.....

You take another cab to the border bridge...hire another cab at the bridge and walk across the bridge with your new cab driver to his cab.....drive to Peru immigration control in Tumbes and THEN if you want......drive to metropolitan Tumbes, Peru about a half hour from  from the border control... if you want to stay in Tumbes or take a bus...........

So the cab driver and I dickered and he drove me two more hours into Mancora....a beautiful drive...miles of isolated beach, reminded me of certain parts of 101 in Northern California

After dinner on Mancora , I crawled into bed and channel surfed between the Diamondbacks Giants baseball game and the Colts Steelers NFL game

From Mancora to Lima is 1200 kms all of it is a two lane paved road with the ocean on the right...........but I M still 18 hours from Lima.

I disn  t write much about Ecuador...although  I was there 86 days...but to net it out...

1, wonderful place for eco tourism
2. Very quite tranquil country
3, with the exception of young girls 21 and younger, good looking women in my age group are few and far between.

In the Guayaquil bus terminal, I watched an unending procession of PLAIN TO UGLY women...some with humongous Walmart butts.....I m talking BIG monstrous AW butts, there is s very serious  obesity problem in Ecuador.

I am NOT referring to any board members girlfriend  or wife, just my general observations....

4. But it s a very cheap place to tour and visit. Bus travel, food and lodging  incredibly cheap.  I went from the north border to the south border 18 and a half hours in  three separate staged trips for a bit over $19.00

Places I liked....some of Quito, Baños, some towns on the coast.....Manta., Pedernales (didn t  like Salinas that much) and when I was on the north coast in Esmeraldas,  it was cold-. ....

Gong to the Galapagos was a wonderful trip, if anyone wants more details , let me know.....

Over and out for tonight

Dennis
