I don't know what your level of Spanish is but Costeño Spanish is very unforgiving and quite challenging for someone that's not a native speaker. Even most Colombians that aren't from the northern coast complain about not being able to understand the people from Barranquilla, Cartegena, and Santa Marta. The accent and the slang only gets worse as you get closer to La Guijira. After three years of studying and speaking Spanish I consider myself fluent. I can communicate with people from any country where it is the primary language. But each time I return to Barranquilla, it takes me about 3 days to acclimate my ears to listening to that accent. You'll have much better luck in Cali and Medellin.

I m with Benjio all the way on that....If you want to practice Spanish, the coast is not the place to it...unless you re talking with educated people.

How long are you going to be in Colombia, what will your lifestyle, hostals, hostals  Do you have places to stay? wahts your daily budget.....Maybe we can help you with recomemndations?
