Great post, Researcher. I know you're only asking the BAQ guys but since this is one thing I have not seen anyone address here yet, I wanted to offer my two cents. I took this for granted and don't remember mentioning it myself even after I went and got all of mine
before I went to Medellin.
I used the CDC website you posted and also had a physical with my doctor and then a travel nurse for the exotic vaccines ... like Yellow Fever. Taking from the list:
- Hepatitis A & B- (1 of these is 1 shot. and the other is 3 shots in all within a month with a final shot 1 year after).
- Yellow Fever - (1 shot)
- Typhoid - I took this in a 4 pill form. It is good for 5 years
- Rabies - No. I was not going on an amazon adventure with wild animals. Although, there were bats in a few of the trees in some places. And you could run into a wild dog, cat, or worse.
- Malaria - No. I did not get the Malaria because while it's possible to contract it in Medellin, the odds are reduced.
Had I been going to BAQ or Cartagena or others with a warmer climate, I would get it.
Finally, I was cautious at first with drinking the water in Medellin, but after a day or two of getting settled and acclimated, I was able to drink the water with no problems. I did not drink alot of it but I did drink enough where I would have gotten sick if there was something wrong with it.
Bottom line, if you're concerned for yourself ... don't do it without some investigation.
