Colombian Peso

Now that the election has been decided, what will happen to the Peso.
History say's that it should return to it normal range, but with a free trade agreement on the horizon any thing can happen.

The exchange house by the parking garages at Chipichape mall in Cali were buying dollars at 2100 a while back when the peso was at 2400.  You were looking at about 12% screwing.  I was with another gringo and he only had dollars. The house did not ask for any indentification from him.  Nothing.

The last time I exchange dollars was 4 or 5 years ago and they needed passport, etc.

If you are coming to Cali soon I will gladly exchange your dollars for 2100 pesos.  Let me know.

ya... I went to that place... They looked at me like I was robbing them..lol. I alway use my ATM for the best rates, but I also take cash along as a back-up.. and that also when you need the best rate, "when your having an ATM problem".

Value up a little(7 pesos more per Dollar)

:?Gentlemen, a little tip-do not look anywhere else but in El Tiempo, Colombia's leading newspaper in Bogotá,  Go to http://eltiempo.terra.com.co/ look on the lower right and you will see a box labeled  "Indicadores económicos" this will show the rate dollars (Dólar TRM):  $2.475,75(for one USD) This is the rate you should receive from an ATM.  Also given will be dollar-Dólar at the average of the Casas de Cambio: both sell and buy are listed Compra buy:    $2.300,00/1 Venta sell:    $2.390,00/1.  Unless you just want to get an idea of the rate than use what you like BUT what you get in Colombia most correct will be in El Tiempo.:?

Another tip, unless you are buying a casa don't sweat the small differences

Thanks Gator,
Looks like good info and a new book mark for me.. I am still awaiting the direction of the Peso, The Euro is running up, for them Colombia must be on sale. But I am waiting for that free trade agreement to become effective. As we come closer to that day, we will see the Peso fall lower and lower.
What do you think??

I use the Banco de la República http://www.banrep.gov.co/index_eng.html
for the exchange rate which is probably where El Tiempo gets their info.  But I have never been able to get an exact match even with the bank fee that I am aware of.
