Well been down in Cali for about a week now. The agency scene is certainly not what it used to be. Luz Amparo of Latin Best is difficult to work with and “negotiated price†with her varies wildly. She still adheres to the old “photo albums†system for the most part and trying to correlate what’s on her web page with the album pages is kind of a mess. I learned you have to be very careful as you look over the album pages being sure to check the date the page was filled out. There are many that are four and five years old. The hot looking twenty three year old in the picture could turn out to be a fat twenty eight year old with three kids. Word is a few months ago Luz Amparo was supposed to sell her agency or at least just rent out the house it’s in and move indefinably to the US. That plan apparently fell through and she’s right where she’s been for the last fifteen years or so. Calicharm is completely shut down and that has provided Luz with an up tick in business. Ricardo of allcolombiangirls has left Chipichape and is now working out of a space that is virtually the size of a closet down off Calle 5ta. Apart from the office being tiny (and watch your head on the underside of that stairway that runs through it) there don’t seem to be any panaderias or other place to take a date within walking distance so you pretty much have to hop in a cab and head off to one of the shopping centers, awkward if the girl turns out to be not what you expected from her photos. On the other hand you have to hand it to Ricardo. He’s a go getter, endlessly optimistic and keeps plucking away with that agency and steadily puts up new profiles on his site. Ricardo has always been able to recruit the best looking girls of all the agencies regardless of his location. I tried a new agency, colombiansoulmates in a part of town calle La Luna. The American owner John is a nice guy and I enjoyed talking with him but there were the usual no shows and in the end I was able to meet only two of the ten I’d picked out. There is another small operation in the north end called nataliascolombianangels. I was able to reach Natalia on the phone once but not subsequently. I didn’t try that hard though because there is only one or two I’d possible be interested in meeting. And I have yet to find a physical location for Cali VIP which is apparently under new ownership. The most promising encounter was at a party held by a resident gringo but I’ll save that story for another post.
On a side note I´m a retired guy with out a lot of family in the US and have decided to go for the retirement visa.
