Philippines here i come
« on: January 22, 2009, 08:01:30 AM »
Well just got my ticket yesterday so I'm officially going to meet my girl. I'm flying out of LA on Korean Air (hopefully won't get shot down by russia) and will spend 3 weeks trolling around luzon.

Enjoy your trip.  Is this the first time you are meeting her?  What are you planning to do while you are there?

Awesome!  I look forward to a good trip report.  I always like to hear what the guys see and observe.  Just reading has given me some new points of views on what I have and am doing as well as a few places I'd like to visit.  Enjoy yourself.

Honestly I made a few suggestions on what I enjoyed, assured my wife I could afford it and then let her show me her country.  I was able to watch how she spent money and handled herself and see the country she enjoyed too.

Welcome Evoltnil,
The three places that I enjoy seeing in Luzon.  Baguio City. summer capital of the Philippines,
the city of Taygaytay, the  taal volcano.  and traveling to Subic Bay.

Just got back myself last week.  Trip report forthcoming...

Dude, you are going to have a great time!  You are doing the right thing getting out of Manila right away.  I was stuck there for a week.  Very crowded and polluted.  Yuck.

Subic is awesome and quite inexpensive.

Enjoy your trip!  I am already planning my next one....

Hey evoltnvii,

Sounds good! ;D Let me know, I am moving over in a few weeks. I may stay 6 months or maybe forever. Sure it's the third world...but I'm currently living in the third world inside los Estados Unidos de Amérika (en inglés United States of Amerika)  and paying though the nose for everything! ¿Se Habla Español? Not any more!   I will no longer have to say "Yo quero un Doble Guaper con queso, papitas fritas, y una Coca Cola" at 'Rey de Hamburguesas'...I mean 'Burger King.'  ;D

I suspect the ad agency is laughing at at their client, Burger King of Spain. Listen closely to the tune and see if you can catch the irony.

I've seen the exact same commercial here in Houston but in English and some (not all) different actors.

Guess I don't watch enough TV, I've never seen it before, in Spanish nor English. But I recognize a melody when I hear one.

Now tell me the BK commercial isn't an almost note for note cover. Hope they paid her some royalties, 'cause that's the irony I was alluding to.

well got good news/bad news today... turns out i am still employed. so yay i still have a job and damm because i cant spend a few months with my little filipina before returning home. also got all of my ducks in a row as it were before the trip except moving out of my apartment. i have 4 weeks still so it shouldnt be too much of a chore. well hopefully ill be able to do regular updates from there but i dont have a guaranteed connection that i know of untill i take her home but i will update as connection allows.

Hi Honey,

I am surprised they don't do it in Spanish in Texas like they do in South Florida.  ;D Anyway, Helen Reddy must be very happy as Michael noted! Even if they changed it to 'I am man!' She cowrote the original song, so she is probably getting a nice royalty check.

well i never made it to manila..... didnt even make it on the plane.
im a big guy i admit it and turns out korean air managers decided i was little to big for one seat so they said i need to buy another seat at the counter or not leave. second ticket was only $1300.00 so i told them let me just pull that out of my ass hold on. they did not think it was funny but F them so i walked out and made some calls.

Well later that afternoon i called my Madel and as expected she did not take it well. After crying for about 2 hours i finally got her to calm down. So now i have 2 tickets that cost me the same price as my original one ticket due to price changes and i leave on may 10th. Well wish me luck hoping nothing goes wrong this time. if they give me trouble at the airport this time tsa is gonna have to break out the taser cause a little asian mad is gonna go flying across the terminal.

Sorry to hear that.  Have you ever had to buy two plane tickets before?  At least you still get to see her soon though.
