nicest city to spend a few months in Colombia?
« on: February 23, 2009, 09:20:10 PM »
Just wondering. I've been told before that my best chances for educated women is Bogota, but I don't know if i'd want to spend several months there. Where do you think quality of life is best in Colombia?

it can't be Cali that's for damn sure. I have trouble picking where i want to go next. But in Colombia Cartagena would top my list. From what I hear the vendors are pain in the butt and the bugs can be bad. Basically I'd like to stay someplace on the beach in the tourist zone.

I'm sure some guys will come along and plug Bogota and Medellin. Personally, Manizales would be my second choice. But I suspect it is more about what appeals to you. What are you most interested in? Staying at the beach. Up in the mountains? I'm pretty sure Bogota is close to 8 million people. That's pretty damn big.
Retiring in Tela, Honduras is 14,600 days (haha)

I agree, depends on what moves you. And yes girls from cities like Bogota, Medellin or even Cali, have a lot more options of getting a better education than girls from the coast cities that are a. Smaller b. there is a lot more machismo c. the government investment is lower (or stolen)  But never underestimate the amount of smart coast women.

Beach, salsa, and hot women sounds about right to me, but I do prefer women with an education. If I could pick a profession for my future wife it would be something like a nurse or a teacher. It makes the decision tougher for sure.

I don't see why not, they are a dime a dozen... unless you don't find a teacher or a nurse that fits the mental physical image that you are attracted to...Then I would suggest not setting such narrow limit.... But I doubt it..

What about Bucaramanga?
Nobody ever goes there but it is one of the nicest cities in Colombia.  The "cuidad de parques" is what they refer to. Has a great climate simular to Medellin, maybe a little hotter, easy to get around. They have the best Hospital in all of Colombia. The most educated woman I ever dated in Colombia was from there. She was a Microbioligist and I let her get away. She is now married to a guy from Norway. Low cost of living too. No beaches, but several lakes. And really sweet women.

Santa Marta, it's beautiful, not sure if I would spend a few months there, but take a look.  Maybe split it with Bogota.  Good luck and have fun.

Bucaramanga is beautiful.

Boyaca is a very nice city for tourism but doesnt get a lot of attention.

Bogota is chock full of educated women among its 8 000 000 people. And I live in Bogota, but if you find a nice andnot too elegant neighborhood (I live in Quinta Pareedes) its like being in a small town.  I have first name relationships with the laundyr, the dry cleaner, a hotel where i like to eat, a couple of small markets, the dry cleaner, my landlord, the concierge in my building, 2 Internet cafes etc.

You have to make up your mind if you want ot be a foreigner visiting or you want to try and experience the culture. If you have Spanish the second is very possible.

I would suggest Manizales, because of the climate, city, and the women are very nice.  It has a lot of universities for being so small.  I have never been to Bucaramanga, but I keep hearing good things about it.  Manizales is ideally located very close to Medellin, Cali, and Pereira.  The women are very professional looking, attractive, and intelligent. The people are muy amable.
