Of Child Stealing and the Hague Convention
« on: April 12, 2008, 10:24:26 AM »
Well, for those of you who have foreign mates and have children with them, you need to worry about when things go south. If your mate is successful in departing the US with the children and will not return, you will be involved with the operation of the Hague Convention. Some countries sign and do nothing, wanting the benefits but not the responsibility, other countries ignore the provisions.

The four worst countries are- Costa Rica, Colombia, Honduras and GERMANY.

German Courts will just not do anything, Costa Rica ignores the provisions and Colombia and Honduras are hit and miss.

Which means you need protective orders, passport surrenders, etc etc on the first day, especially in the case of smaller children who cannot tell someone that they are USC being held outside the US.

My source is my CLE classes from last month.
