Tried something new this trip- I flew nonstop to Bangkok via Thai Airways.
The nonstops leave at night from LAX or JFK. 17 hours flight time for LAX-BKK. The flight arrives at 630 AM in Bangkok. Return flight was about 14 hours. Same great service.
I usually fly CX-Cathay- via Hong Kong, on the same night route. I also recommend Cathay.
I was really impressed with Thai. More legroom than I have seen in years. You could actually WALK into your seat rather than Contort into your seat. THREE full meals and two full snack services and constant beverage service compared to the US carrier version of one and a half meals with reluctant snack service.
Full entertainment centers in each seat including a language course on one channel if you want to pick up some Thai.
The aircraft are new AB340-500s with 8 across configuration in economy.
The only rub was that I still had to go on to Udon so that meant another 7 hours travel and an airport change. And no shower since LA. The only advantage to travel to Hong Kong before traveling on to Bangkok are the lounges where you can shower and change clothes.
I highly recommend Thai Airways for travel to Bangkok. Smooth as Silk as the ad says. Any questions- ask away.
