Sounds fishy to me. Heart Attack? Of course any time I hear "dead gringo," "Colombian Woman (Women)" and "Medellin" in the same sentence I suspect foul play.

The comments section at the end of the article is interesting reading. Lots of negative commentary about U.S. sex tourists, etc.

Unfortunately the poor guy apparently died in Mudd's barrio and he perpetuates the gringo monger stereotype right here on this forum.

I didn't read any of the comments previously. What trips me out judgmental Colombianos is they speak of Americans as if they aren't paying prostitutes for sex exponentially more than foreigners do. It's ridiculous.

Exactly! Colombian hookers would starve to death if they had to depend on gringos to keep them going.

Apparently he died of food poisoning from seafoofd.(well allergic reaction anyway) Probably just treating the girls to a bit of Sushi in one of the restaurants in Lleras and had bad luck

I remember I got really sick from some fish in Santa Marta a few months ago. Lost about 5 kg in 4 days from diarrhea.
being internationalized for many years. I figure whatever I got would have killed most other people.
My stomach is pretty strong-

Apparently that guy Barry Brechfeld in the comment section is an ex-monger who opened up a hotel in Medellin (The victim was one of his clients). He includes mongers and normal tourists as the clients of his Hotel.

Dont know nothing about him personally, only what I read on another Forum..could be all Chismosos..

http://colombiaconnection.freeforums.net/thread/1125/died-poblado-looks-heart-attack

Anyway, all of this kind of garbage with crazy scuzzy gringos, trancones, air polution, general ambiente of Medellin is one reason I got the hell out of there..even though the murder rate has suposedly gone way down..

Barry doesn't own a hotel....just a bunch of apartments he rents out......his website is pobladorentals.com.

He is married to a paisa and has a daughter with her.

But I guess when you live in the gutter....I guess everything looks like [snip]....jajaja

I don't know what site you are referring to but implying that a guy is or was or that you heard he could have been a monger when he is married and has a little girl is a scumbag trick......stay off the scumbag gutter sites and quit spreading [snip].....it just makes you look dirty.

I've made judgmental remarks about gringo sex tourists in the past, but really who are we to judge?  Prostitution is legal in Colombia and many parts of the world including parts of the US.  If two adults mutually agree to that type of transaction that's their right, it doesn't make them bad people.  With that being said, Expat I think you made the right decision to leave Medellin for Manizales.  I would've done the same thing if I were you.

Manizales is starting to sound like Lake Wobegone where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average. Once the hordes of gringo whore mongers descend on Manizales, then what?

Just don't get the point of accusing a guy that has a family and a business of being a monger unless you know for sure.

That will never happen, but if it did Expat can easily pick up and move to Armenia.

Actually you're right ..shouldnt be repeating rumours I hear on another site, even with a disclaimer.

Ive gotten in trouble for it more than once before ..I.e. Repeating rumours that people.were dead I heard on another Forum..

Most of things people say on Forums has to be taken with a grain of salt. Some of it is out in out Bullsh1t.
Like I said I dont know the guy.from Adam,.

At least I admit when I am wrong.

By the way its not a scumbag site.its a lot more highly moderated and has a lot more "normal" guys on kt than this One.

But regardless t I dont like the atmosohere in Lleras and Poblado One Iota. Maybe to visit and go to restaurants once in a blue moon. And Envigado and Sabaneta are pretty well just as crowded and conjested as Medellin proper.

So was mine, mostly.  But it is true that Manizales is far cleaner, less congested, less violent, with nowhere near as many gringos, sex tourists, or prepagos compared to Medellin.  Me being a young latino I can very easily hang out in Medellin and stay completely away from the from all the crazy negative stuff(if I choose to), but an older obvious gringo like Expat he probably gets bombarded constantly with advances from women of ill repute and it makes it very hard to find someone who's genuine.  Might as well just leave Medellin altogether to much greener pastures, and not even look back.
