Chinese sister-in-law has B-2 Interview today
« on: March 29, 2010, 04:01:32 PM »
A couple of weeks ago my Chinese sister-in-law applied for a B-2 visa to visit the US this summer and she has her interview in Guangzhou this morning (well tonight in the US). I was thinking that it would take several months rather than weeks for her interview to take place after she applied but it all happened really quick. We are pretty confident in her chances for success as she has and can easily prove strong ties to China which will compel her to not overstay her visa. She has and will submit the following items during her interview:

1. An invitation letter from my wife and I in both English and Chinese which gives a brief description of her trip and a pledge that we will provide a traveler's medical insurance policy for her during her visit.
2. Copies of her bank statements showing significant monetary assets.
3. Proof of home ownership in China.
4. Proof of business ownership in China.
5. Proof of automobile ownership in China.
6. Copy of her hukou proving that she has a husband and son in China who will not accompany her on her visit.

I think that those items should be sufficient for success but then again you never know when it comes to dealing with the Guangzhou Consulate.

Well her visa was approved after a quick 3 question interview - all they asked her was:
1. How long will your intended stay be?
2. What will the purpose of your trip be?
3. Then she was asked where I live since for question 2 she said the purpose of her trip was to visit my wife and I.

Are they giving her the 10-year multiple-entry?

Are they giving her the 10-year multiple-entry?

I doubt it. She knows that it will be a multi-entry visa good for stays of up to 6 months however she is not sure how long that it will be good for. I am guessing that it will probably be a 1 year visa though as that seems to be the most common duration that is being given out to first time B-2 visa holders from China lately. But we will find out for sure in a couple of days when her passport/visa gets mailed back to her.
