I don't know about the US but in Canada, you have to sign an affidavit of support for (now) 3 years from the moment they become a permanent resident (aka, get here).  It doesn't matter if you get divorced during that time, you'll still need to provide for her until those years have passed.  Hence if she comes now and then you get divorced in 1 year, then she marries a year later, you'll still have to support her for the next year.  Understand that support means that she can't require social security checks... it will bounce back on you.


My understanding of the US law is that it is similar, but is 10 years instead of 3...

yea guys I really don't have an angle here. You bring a chica to the states and you are responsible for her for a long time. They wanted to look at my income for something like the last 3 years to prove I could support her when some comes over for at least the next decade.
It can be very expensive to take shortcuts in this process.
Retiring in Tela, Honduras is 14,600 days (haha)
