It's amazing really, all that time he was with Escobar, and then after when he surrendered and went to prison for 23 years. I guess that book he wrote was made into a TV series about his prison days, the TV show name "Surviving Escobar Alias JJ". Here's a trailer and the first episode from the Carocol series..

Sadly Mudd, this (Caracol presentation) is a glamorization of the cartels, specifically that of Escobar, which some Colombians seem to like, however many who lived through the terrors of the cartels remember how much they, friends, family and neighbors suffered in that time.
The younger generation may not really grasp how much Escobar damaged the Colombian people.

his girlfriend was an idiot, woww, but hey, its colombia, medellin and a tv show, but i am surprised that this guy is still breathing and somebody in medellin hasn't put a hit on him.

That 1st episode was pretty good, and the price (FREE) was great. I wonder if other episodes are available without having to pay?

He died in bed in 2020--throat cancer.
