looks like on the surface, prostitutes in parque lleras overdosed their targets  with fatal results.

http://m.elcolombiano.com/antioquia/...llin-CN7834567

Parque Lleras  Medellín had a fatal outcome for two foreign engineers. One of them, of Cuban origin and identified as Víctor Ignacio Cuerdo Valencia, was abandoned in race 45 with 135 street south of the municipality of Caldas, on the Variante route and died minutes later.

The other tourist, of Honduran nationality, was hospitalized and today is under the protection of the Colombian authorities who manage their return to Central America.
Researchers in the case reported that, according to the first reports, foreigners arrived in Antioquia to participate in a meeting on hydroelectric engineering held at a hotel in southern Medellín. Both worked for a specialized technology company.
The agents were able to establish that the men left the hotel at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 6 and went to a place in Parque Lleras where they asked for a bottle of liquor.

"They were drinking and they were approached by two women to talk to them. The survivor (Honduran engineer) said he did not remember anything after a while, until he was in the hospital, "said the researcher.

Carlos Duran, mayor of Caldas, said it was a policeman who saw one of the two foreigners on the road apparently vomiting, shortly before collapsing early Thursday morning.

"He took him to the hospital, thinking that maybe he was drunk, but he died there," the president said. Witnesses later confirmed that the man had gotten off a car that was only stopped a few seconds.

The medical reports confirmed that traces of a drug used as a sedative or for the treatment of seizures and epilepsies were found in the body of the survivor. Supplied in high doses, that substance is deadly.

The victims were robbed of money, credit cards and cell phones.

He must be their unofficial 'ambassador of tourism'!!!-----but I must admit it IS better that people here do read the 'Mudd Reports' as it COULD happen to them if they don't know better....

I think the fact that we lost a fellow poster here to violence in Medellin definitely warrants a level of concern when it comes to worst case scenarios in that part of Colombia. Obviously it's no fairy tale. I think Mudd just wants to remind of everyone of that fact.

Yea, I've busted Mudd"s chops a bit much in the past, me thinks. We sometimes think like it's la la land when we go some place distant, different, pretty and full of smiling faces.

I'm maybe fairly good at gauging danger, but my spending using a currency I'm not familiar with, gets a bit out of hand, with me making rough, inaccurate 'conversions' ending up spending more than I should by trip's end.

The dollar goes so far, that I just burn em up, spending.

Again, a sense of unreality,  like it's monopoly play money or some thing....

I think it would be better if you translated the stories yourself rather than relying on Google to translate. Would eliminate some of the awkward phrasing.

It has always seemed very selfish hipocritical to me

To see someone who has lived many years in Colombia
Never point out the serious and extreme dangers of not going to Colombia

Ha ha...old hat. Nothing's changed. It turns out (according to Revista Semana) that back in 1537 when the Spaniard Gonzalo  Jimenez de Quesada conquered the villages around the sabana de Bogota his troops gathered up the gold and rounded up the Indian women for you know what but the girls put leaves of burundanga (Brugmansia spp.) in the food of their captors which knocked them out allowing the girls to escape.
