Two gringos killed in Medellin in the past week
« on: December 08, 2017, 12:58:31 PM »
One gringo staying in an insecure apartment invited an 17 year old hooker over and she let a 23 year old guy in
Fight broke out and the gringo was stabbed to death Rumor has it that it was the 17 year old girl that stabbed the gringo while he was fighting with the guy

Rule number one never stay in an apartment where there is no security and anybody can get to your front door without passing through security

Gringo number two got a cab in parque lleras and when he got out of the cab to get into his building two guys on motorcycle pulled out a gun and told him to hand over the gold chain he was wearing
He resisted and was shot dead on the spot in front of his building

Rule number two. Don’t wear expensive jewelry in Colombia especially around Christmas

Rule number three avoid getting taxis off the street as much as posible
Call a taxi use Uber have a list of taxistas you know and trust to call

Or better yet do what I did and just buy a car

This will be my first Christmas in Colombia. It makes sense that the danger of being robbed may be more at this time of year....

He should have taken her to a motel instead of his apartment. Much safer.

Damn...I'll be in Medellin in January.

But I don't do pay to play or wear jewelry. And last time I was in Medellin I used Uber and/or hotel taxis.

Nevertheless, always good to be reminded to be careful and take the necessary precautions.

never let a girl into your apartment you haven't known for some time, even if you have security in the bldg because by the time you need the security, its too late.  But amazing how careless and stupid some foreigners act in medlelin. its not  Tokyo people.

Rule number four: give up your wallet, jewelry, or other valuables if you are robbed.  Nothing you have is worth dying for and you will most likely get shot or stabbed if you put up a fight.

In Cali yesterday (Wednesday) four guys robbed the clients and employees of the Juan Valdez in Granada a place much frequented by foreigners. They took money of course as well as cel phones and laptops. As no one put up resistence no one was shot. The pólice managed to catch them later in south Cali because one of the iphones had a tracking application turned on. This was something of a high profile case being a popular tourist hangout. A Colombian commented on the article in El País saying he had his high end phone also equipped with tracking stolen and the pólice wouldn.t bother looking for it.
